So You Think You Can Dance- 2011 Season! - Merged Threads

Yes, I am sooooo excited about tonight’s show!!! Allstars AND Neil Patrick Harris!!!

Just gotta go and lead rehearsal…then back home for SYTYCD! I love Wednesdays.

I guess I was confused. I thought the dancers would dance with another competitor as well as with an all star. Do two dancers go home tomorrow night?

Good job with Neil Patrick Harris as the guest judge tonight. He wasn’t afraid to criticize.

I love the addition of the all-stars although I think having Comfort as an all-star is really a stretch. Is she really the best female hip-hop dancer?

The pleasant surprise of the evening has to be Sasha! Great hip-hop routine by a contemporary dancer! The chemistry between her and Twitch was awesome and she held her own with him. I think she put herself into contention with both her performances. Can she keep it going?

Absolutely loved Clarice’s Bollywood number with Robert. When you have THAT much personality and good looks, you can dance the hokey pokey and look good…

My prediction is that Melanie will NOT win it all. Although she may very well be the BEST dancer, I don’t think she will be the FAVORITE dancer.

I just voted for Sasha, Clarice, and Marko…

In bottom three this week: (is that how it will be done- I missed the explanation…)
Jess
Mitchell
???

Poor Mitchell, sabotaged by wretched choreography. No dancer could have saved that mess. Bravo to Neil Patrick Harris for calling out Tyce–I guess he’ll never be asked back as a judge.

Still no truly memorable dances this season, though Sasha And Twitch came close. I found myself watching only the All Star in each couple–they are generally superior dancers, and pretty charismatic, too. It’s impossible to take your eyes off Pasha and Brandon! I preferred the old format when the contestants only danced with one another, switching partners halfway through.

I figured out why I like bollywood when Robert does it. It’s because he commits. Usually dancers seem slightly embarassed, but not him – he seems to love it, and I love watching. That was one of my top numbers of the night.

Ricky was wonderful in the dark nightmare piece. I didn’t think he had it in him, but he was truly creepy.

Jordan’s number was tailored to her skills, and she was terrific. The girl’s legs are absolute perfection.

Melanie’s duo was beautiful. I didn’t see alot of Viennese waltz in it, but I’m not a ballroom expert. But I’m getting a little tired of the judges telling us every week that she’s all but won. I hope voters rebel against her premature coronation.

I am pretty sure TWO dancers (a guy and a girl) will be voted off tonight.

I will chime in and say that I loved Sasha and T’witch’s dance. Also the bollywood and I was so thrilled to see Jess get such great critique. I think he adds needed variety to the guy’s side of things, and he is wonderful at what he does. And it kind of makes me laugh that NPH is telling him not to “mug” for the cameras. Pot, meet kettle?

I do love NPH!
:)

I’m confused.Nigel announced the all star lineup will be changing next week??? Too bad, I’d like to see Pasha, Robert and especially Twitch each week!
Giving the current contestants more experienced partners really upped the level of dancing.
Kudos to NPH for calling Tyce out on the sloppy Broadway number…I bet Nigel wasnt so happy about that critique!

Nigel actually came out and said as much when he was praising Tyce’s later work, when he said something liking that one much better than when he tried to always do a “Broadway” style. He was also pretty forceful in the critique of using “faux-fossie” (my term! ) and only half-way doing it at that. I felt that was as much directed to Tyce as to the dancers.

I don’t see how any girls are deserving of going home tonight. I think the 3 guys that will have the fewest number of votes will be: Michell, Tadd, and Ricky. I think either Mitchell or Ricky is going home. Tadd has a very likeable personality.

Mitchell DID get sub-standard choreography but his stage presence is lacking, compared to the other guys, and you cannot blame that on the choreography can you?

I loved Twitch and Sasha together! I watched their routine again after the show was over.

Who will go home tonight? I don’t know . . . maybe Mitchell. I have no clue about the girls.

Agree, but it’s the dancer who gets punished, not the choreographer. Completely unfair, but that’s just how it is in competitive dance.

I think Mitchell will go home tonight. On the girl’s side, it’s going to be a process of elimination. Obviously not Melanie, even though IMO she’s turned in two lackluster routines in a row. Caitlynn’s stock seems to be rising with the judges, as does Jordan’s. I think after the response to last night’s number, they can’t send Sasha home. That only leaves Clarice. :(

I didn’t like NPH as a judge as much as I thought I would. He obviously thought he was supposed to judge choreography. I, too, thought his comment about Jess “mugging” for the camera was ironic, given NPH’s acting style, especially on HIMYM.

The girls are sort of in two distinct camps:
the feminine= Clarice, Jordan, Caitlynn
vs
the less feminine/more athletic= Sasha, Melanie

I am not sure about who really has the best technique, but other observations:
Sasha and Melanie definitely have much more ability to be dramatic, act, show emotion, while the others are a bit more one-dimensional in affect (sexy, cute, pretty, smiley, etc.) Which will win out with the public? With the judges?

Argentine tango by caitlyn was gorgeous. Couldn’t take my eyes off her or Pasha. Lifts weren’t tango-esuqe, but for this show, that was pretty authentic, if not a little dry. The character she developed was stunning nevertheless. I’m not sure how other non-ballroom fanatics watching at home responded to that routine though.

Sasha’s performance started out magnificently but sort of fizzled out/simplified by the end (if that makes sense). My family loved it, I could only say that the dancing was solid. (something about sasha doesn’t convince me.)

I thought for sure Clarice would be sent packing since she was assigned bollywood. I didn’t think she could handle it and a badly done bollywood is the kiss of death on this show. She nailed it. Could’ve had a bit more personality (and may be sent home as a result), but she nailed it. Damn, I forgot to vote for her. She needs votes.

Just saw Marko’s performance online. His upper body was so stiff. What did the judges say? (I only saw the performance online). I think Melanie hid his weak spots.

Ricky is still my least favorite dancer yet the fawning continues. Whatever.

Melanie knows how to perform and I agree with NPH (shocking, since he annoys me to no end) that she does have the appearance of an early 1920’s flappergirl yet dances timelessly. Getting bored of her though. BTW I like how Viennese waltzes now apparently have absolutely no footwork done in hold and over five lifts. Authentic. Might as well have been called contemporary.

Mitchell was great with what he had but the theme was bull, the costumes were crap, and the song was both of those things times twenty. On the other side, anyone else notice that he is getting less effeminate as a dancer as the show goes on?

Tadd was… tadd. Hip hop wasn’t a huge jump for him, more praise, etc. Don’t care for him.

Ricky should go home. Girls I have no idea but wouldnt be surprised if it was Clarice because she hasn’t been that personable.

Aw, sorry to see Clarice leave! I was really hoping Jordan would be the one to go. I guess it was Mitchell’s time to go but he went out with class.

I wonder why they changed the format from last year? Didn’t it used to be that the judges didn’t get to choose who went home from the final 10? It was determined entirely by the audience vote. I guess Nigel was afraid of losing control of the ultimate winner.

I think the decisions now are just hard, and I was okay with the one they made tonight.

something is wrong with me this year?? i love this show, and have watched ever since it first aired…but for some reason i cant get into it this year…find myself changing the channel? what’s different

parent 56 I agree , I dvd it and then don’t watch. I don’t see the same level of dance and/or choreography to capture my attention. I just don’t really care yet. Maybe soon?
