Katie Holmes was only there to promote whatever crappy movie she has coming out–she’s been doing the rounds on talk shows, too. But I have no idea why the show needs to do this–is Fox or the SYTYCD production company an investor in the movie? At least Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Neil Patrick Harris and Lady Gaga each have a following and may bring viewers to the show, but I doubt anyone would be attracted by the presence of Katie Holmes, who looked terrible and sounded worse. But then then they had her dance (badly) last season, didn’t they? Maybe she’s somebody’s godchild.

I saw the Season 3 tour and it was spectacular. You couldn’t give me free tickets for this season. Each of the final four is great within their genres, but very limited otherwise. (And I miss Jesse!) They don’t seem to really push themselves to go beyond their training-I wonder if Alex Wong’s injuries made some dancers fearful to fully throw themselves into the show. Ah well, there’s always next year…

Katie Holmes is on the Board of the Dizzy Feet Foundation with Nigel. Also, they are both involved in the Church of Scientology and that is how they met and he got her involved in Dizzy Feet when she was trying to become a Broadway star. I think Tom probably donated a lot of money to get her on the board. IIRC she doesn’t even have any dance training prior to her short lived (and panned) run in “Chicago”.

When was Katie in Chicago? She made her Broadway debut in All My Sons and, although much about that show was panned (despite its great financial success), Katie’s performance wasn’t panned. She made an adequate, sometimes good, impression in her first Broadway play, despite a director who made all the wrong choices with that play.

Sorry, I was confused. I remember now her SYTYCD performance was very Fosse-esque (as was her “Eli Stone” guest spot) so I (not really caring that much) had a selective memory. And it was her SYTYCD performance that was widely panned. THAT I remember very well.

Any maybe their stock choreographers are spread too thin. Not many can be inventive and clever and meangful on a new dance with new dancers once a week or more. Thus “they are two people in love…”

I like the idea of two routines in the finale - once in their genre with an all star - and once out of their genre. But make the “out of genres” be dances that the voters are famliar with. (Not Russian Folk Dance or South African Boot Step.) If you want to add more, a solo that lasts more than a few seconds.

And THAT, dear friends, was a big part of the beauty of “Get Outa Your Mind.” We all thought OMG, poor ballet dancer Alex has drawn tWitch and Hip Hop…poor guy, it could be awkward…THEN it was fabulous. Had that been this season, Alex probably wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to do that dance.

That is why Lauren won last year. Even though we were Team Kent at our house, Lauren deserved to win. They threw every style at her and she could do it all.

Once again, I keep seeing poor Tadd and Marko in my mind having to get through that awful step, knowing it would be the voters’ last impression of them. And double poor Marko for the Broadway with Sasha where his “character” was supposed to not do much in the way of dance.

Why does every one on the show keep talking about Sasha’s pain and her life and what she has endured? I have no idea what they are specifically talking about, whether she had some huge personal tragedy or just grew up poor or something else. Looks like Melanie’s Dad is dead, that is rough, too. None of it has anything to do with her ability to entertain in audience by dancing, does it? The judges make it sound like some past experience should give her bonus points in her dance or something.

The disco & cha-cha were weak, the cha-cha worse, the step was horridly off, not in sync with each other and poorly done. I wish the finale would put them each in their own genre and then in other things that allow them to show their very best. The entire season should have been full of being tested in unfamiliar types, the finale should show them doing what they do best.

The guys are fine, but the girls are amazing, I hope it comes down to the two girls.

I love Melanie. The most talented dancer I have witnessed. I even fell.in love with her hipnhop and disco because she is so good at portraying a character. What an amazing influence.

So glad Melanie won! She was my favorite from the first audition. Amazing dancer, amazing actress, so much heart. I hope she sings too, just to broaden her chances for work.
I have to say Jess’s tap tonight was astounding! And I really enjoyed seeing all those “judge’s favorite dances” on one show. Reminded me of some that I had enjoyed earlier in the season and had sort of forgotten about.

They just showed on the local news the huge crowd of folks watching the show at her HS, and just as the winner was about to be announced… they lost the live feed!!! So they got a computer error message on the screen for a few seconds, just at the wrong time! When the signal returned they were dropping confetti and hugging Melanie. What timimg! Ugh!!

I really enjoyed the show tonight and think that the dances shown indicate, at least to me, that this was indeed a great season. I am looking forward to seeing the live show again…in Melanie’s “home town”!!! :)

LOVED the tap piece- soooo much energy! Very exciting and fun to watch!!!
Need more stuff like that next season- a few of my “friends in SYTYCD” stopped watching part-way through this season…
Till then, all.

This is one of the things I always liked about this show. As the season went on, we were able to see that Caitlynn is an amazing ballrom dancer, and Sasha is a fabulous hiphopper. I LOVED seeing Miranda’s woodpecker hiphop piece again. All of those girls are contemporaries who were asked to step outside their style and rose to the occasion.

I loved the tap piece, too. Jess is so good in his element. I hope his height doesn’t prevent him from getting work.

Did you do the arithmetic when they announced the winners? The girls together got 79% of the vote, with Melanie getting 47%. So much for the boys. My guess is that the voting has been leaning very heavily to Melanie all along, and the judges pushed Sasha as a front runner to keep up interest.

Got to watch it with older D (the dancer.) Love her insights. I think she’s right that Sasha could do everything, but Melanie is the one you are drawn to watch. D also noted (and loved) that Melanie isn’t the traditional “pretty girl”…she can play pretty, delicate, tough, quirky.

As for the whole struggles in her life thing…Melanie’s dad died, isn’t Marko the one with the bullet, whose dad couldn’t come until the end because he couldn’t get off work, Tadd’s parents were immigrants…is the “struggle” being an African American woman? Or did I forget a story from early on?
