Natalia–was she the one with the sister who had to go to the hospital TWICE? (Or was SHE the one who went to the hospital twice?)

I’m remembering Natalia as the newly diagnosed diabetic sister. I was channel surfing last night and found SYTYCD. Why do I feel like a magnet is pulling me towards these singing and dance competitions? I love seeing the story lines, the clothes, the judges, the contestants. The only dance background I have is shuttling my D to ballet for 10 years and seeing all those recitals, but I sure like seeing some of the amazing dance talent in the world. I know there are hours and hours behind a good leap or turn.

Yes, Jeremy had the meltdown maybe three seasons ago. i only remember him because we saw him at Showstoppers Nationals a few months later. (His group won 1st overall and he won the sr. solo division.)

But I’m confused. He’s Canadian, and there was a Jeremy and/or Jeremiah Hughes on SYTYCD Canada. I don’t know if he uses Jeremy and Jeremiah interchangeably, or if there are really two different male dancers with those names.

missypie, that is the same jeremiah hughes from SYTYCD Canada. I don’t watch the Canadian show but someone I know is acquainted with him. They had told me that on the Canadian version Blake told him to just never come back or something similarly catty?

I admit that he didn’t seem to have a lot of passion on last night’s show.

I think it’s weird that they spend a lot of time focussing on dancers that don’t make it (e.g. Natalia and the wacky blonde and Janine’s l’il sis.) I just know that there will be dancers in the top 20 who we have hardly “seen” before. (As I recall, Robert was one of those last year. I was thinking “who the heck is that?”)

So excited. We’ve been DVR-ing the show for two weeks while my poor hs junior gets through SAT IIs, APs, ACT and finals. She’s done as of today and we are going to hole up and glut ourselves on our favorite show. Nothing like being a totally slothful couch potato watching SYTYCD!

ITA, I thought they spent way too much time on the sisters and Alexis. Last night we saw no Marco, no Ashley Rich, a lot of the early judges favorites were missing. My DD has a friend who was in Vegas and we didn’t even get a glimpse of her. We were hoping during the group choreography but they highlighted basically one group and skipped everyone else. For the hundred-something hopefuls that were there it would have been nice for them to at least get a second on camera for their families to see.

We just have to remember that it’s a TV show and they are looking for drama. The absolutely outstanding ones probably sail through predictably (unless they pass out or break an ankle), so we don’t see them until the actual competition starts.

A couple of D’s former drill teammates are Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. We watch that DCC show on CMT…because those girls were never yelled at for being awful, or called into the office, we barely saw them at all season of the show.

I don’t mind during the auditions that they show the ones who don’t make it. We have enough time to get to know the ones who do once the top 20 goes forward.

Oh, man. This season is going to be absolutely incredible! ALL the top 20 dancers are fabulous and i loved how they did the show tonight. No ridiculous filler traveling to the dancers’ homes…just more great DANCE shown!!! AND we get to see the dancers paired with each other as well as the top 10 with “all-stars”. It seems Nigel and co. have really been listening to their fans and adjusted things accordingly. It’s going to be a great summer!!:)

I searched and found our old thread about this before seeing this one.

I LOVED how they did tonights top 20 reveal show…no filler…just lots of dance!! And each of the dancers is great. And it seems they might actually do some great tap this season!!

Momof3stars, we had a friend go to Vegas as well a few years ago and we never saw a glimpse of her either…

MODERATOR’S NOTE

I have merged the two threads since there seem to be so many fans on CC and I thought they’d all like to be discussing this in the same place.

Wowww!! Fantastic show tonight, and it looks like a great season! Nigel was right, those girls are BEASTS! Amazing choreography all night long. I love that they’re not going to ignore tap.

Alex Wong tweeted last night that he wasn’t competing because he wasn’t physically ready to dance by the time they did the Vegas round.

Well, it was worth the wait. After stockpiling the last two weeks of shows, DD and I glutted ourselves last night and this morning. Beautiful dancers again. I love the blonde ballroom dancer and her number with Pascha was just sublime.

Those top 20 women/ girl dancers were just incredibly fabulous! They all look like they have come straight from a top Broadway musical. Best lineup I’ve ever seen so early in a season. It is going to be tough to “cut” any of them. And the choreography all night long! WOW!! This is going to be the best SYTYCD season ever!

I have to admit that I did not find the audition rounds particularly scintillating. I couldn’t understand what all the buzz was that surrounds this show. But then when I saw the choreographed numbers by the top 20–well–now I get it! They were fantastic!!

Just returned from a family vacation cruising on the Carnival Splendor and watched two weeks worth of shows just now.

I love the top 20. Hard to pick a favorite this early. Iveta, the 30 year-old ballroom dancer who twice previously failed to make the top 20, is probably my sentimental fave. What a lesson in perseverance. Couldn’t believe she has been crowned world champion in TEN different dances and admire the fact that she wants to add more to her dance resume. I’m sure the guys will give all those gals a good competition in the coming weeks and rumor has it Alex Wong might be back for the “all-star” rounds when they get down to the top 10.

Sorry to see (hear) Mary Murphy’s voice return to her old self, but I’m glad she is okay.

^^ Mary is growing on me a little, especially when I think about Mia last year.

jshain, Nigel did tweet that the plan is for Alex to be an “allstar” as long as he is healthy enough to do so. He was just not recovered enough to compete weekly.
