So You Think You Can Dance- 2011 Season! - Merged Threads

For some reason, that samba just did not ring my bell. Maybe it was her costume?? All the pieces of fabric down around her legs were distracting to me, I guess. I LOVED the Nappy/Tabs piece that Melanie and Marko did! I did enjoy Kristin Chenowith’s comments…she is pretty funny. And I can see the value of having someone up there to comment on the “performance” part of things, as well as technical aspects of the dances (which the other 3 judges covered quite well). She cracked me up when she said she did not mean to be the “Paula Abdul of So You Think You Can Dance”!

“Shut the front door!” How many times did she say that?

Yeah, shut the front door was okay the first time…she must have been really out of things to say when she said it again.

Okay, now I officially appreciate Mary. Neither Kristen nor 'C had any actual constructive comments.

I loved Mitchell’s samba. I thought he looked better than Caitlyn because the lines of his costume were clean and Caitlyn’s flowy/messy dress and hair were distracting. It helped that Mitchell has a nice round rear end. Some of these poor guys don’t have much of one and it’s hard to shake it when you don’t have it.

Nothing blew me away last night. Always love Melanie and Marco…I bet if they had drawn that dreaded folk dance from a few seasons ago, they would have killed it.

I also liked the getting dressed hip hop, Tadd more than Jordan. I’m starting to like Tadd.

Didn’t like that dance where they were half-gouls or whatever. The makeup didn’t read and I just didn’t get anything out of the dance. I don’t think it was the fault of the dancers but I bet they’ll still end up in the bottom.

Missypie, I absolutely agree about the samba! I was more impressed with Mitchell and I am sure it was the costuming. It’s not often that the costumers on that show mess things up, but this was one good example, IMO. Though the judges seemed to love her performance, to me it looked jerky and out of control somehow.

As you all may recall, Mitchell was the one who was injured in week 1 and couldn’t dance. It would have neen a shame if he had been eliminated before getting a chance to dance with Caitlyn. I think he’s one of the most versatile male dancers. I thought Sasha and Alexander’s routine with the piano was really entertaining. It will be interesting to see if dancing first last night lands them in the bottom 3 with the voters. I hope not. M & M (Melanie and Marko) are definitely the front-runners so far.

The samba didn’t ring my bell either, so I was surprised it got great reviews. This is probably why they didn’t ask me to judge. Melanie and Marko are the Javier Colon of dance.

I can’t believe y’all would complain about Caitlyn’s dress and NOT about Melanie’s bizarre costume? It was half dress, half tutu and quite bizarre! Enjoyed their dance tho, but took me a while to quit staring at her outfit.

LOL, don’t get me started on the costumes this year. I wonder if they have a new crew, because I think a lot are distracting and otherwise ill suited for the dance and/or the body of the particular dancer.

Yeah, Melanie’s costume was a little strange but I kind of expect that with hip-hop. Plus, at least for me, it did not distract from the dance. The samba one totally did, IMO.

Predictions, anyone?

Bye Bye to Jordan. Her performance was the weakest.

I absolutely loved Jess and Clarice’s fox trot! Jess was awesome! That was the only “Wow!” dance of the night for me. Don’t know who will get sent home, although I’m betting Ashley and her partner will be in the bottom three couples, thanks to the weird dance and costumes they got stuck with. (I don’t feel like I really know/recognize many of the dancers as individuals yet – not that I ever vote, anyway.)

The show has changed alot over the years . I would like to see more Broadway routines and less Contemporary . Many of the dancers are really strong in the Hip-Hop -Jazz etc .The only was to trip them up is to do more Cha- Cha -Samba -Waltz ,which isn’t done as much now . I miss EVETA ,the thin blonde Russian dancer !!Where is Alex Wong ?

I think we’ll see the all stars after there are only 5 couples.

Based on the solos, I’d probably send Chris and Caitlyn home…

Loved the Axis dance performance!

I was surprised they sent Miranda home. What this show needs to keep it interesting to viewers is progression and development in the dancers… which Miranda offered. To me Ashley smiles too much and acts stiff and showy like she is in a pageant. Caitlyn’s dance for her life was meh for me.

I wasn’t a Miranda fan, but the judges sure seemed to adore her Wednesday night. What the heck?

DH and I thought Miranda’s solo was by far the strongest. I am thinking that, since Nigel said the judges were NOT in agreement over the decision to send her home, they (for whatever reason) are not wanting to split couples up yet, and they had decided to send her partner home, so they sent her. Li’l C looked REALLY upset, and I don’t blame him.

To me it’s like they are sending people home that I CAN remember…Robert with the BIG delightful personality (and awesome dancer); and Chris (last week), who offered the potential for seeing tap choreography and who just got stuck with (IMO) an “unlikeable” partner (at least for the young demographic…just my guess)—those are the two examples that come to mind.

I agree that Melanie and Marko are THE couple right now. Other dancers that stand out to me (or that I can even distinguish from the others…) are Sasha (mostly because of her hair and her sister); Ryan (her hair and her history); Jess (LOVE his broadway style!! I am rooting for the “little” guy, lol); and that is about it. Because ALL the dancers are so very strong and seemingly so versatile this season, the others are all kind of running together for me…

It was surprising to me that they sent Miranda home instead of Ashley. I wasn’t a huge fan, but she seemed to be more, for lack of a better word, multi-dimensional. Ashley doesn’t seem to have grown much. Nigel did say it wasn’t a unanimous decision.

I always feel sorry for the couples that get those really “out there” routines that people can’t connect to, either with the choreography or the song (and sometimes with the makeup and costumes). It seriously puts them at a disadvantage, unless they have a huge fan base.
