So...

I’m an international applicant, living in Mumbai. During the night (here, so during the day in the states) someone from the NYU admissions office called saying they MAY have good news, but they’ll call back later.

*** DOES THIS MEANS?!?!?

what do you think it means? lol
“good news” correlates with acceptance, maybe even with a fat scholarship

But the “may”? Why would they bother with a “may” if I was accepted? It was a voice-mail that they left if it makes a difference.

well now that’s impossible for me to answer lol. I can’t tell why someone used the word “may”. It could be anything but it can’t be a bad sign. I’d be excited to receive any sort of good news phone call. Don’t worry about it, just be happy that it wasn’t bad news

It doesn’t mean anything unless it’s written in black and white and signed yours truly.

I definitely think it means you were accepted. I doubt the admissions officer would think that you might take rejection as good news.

Perhaps the “may” has something to do with scholarship amount?

I guess it could be acceptance, but I’ve never heard of them calling, so I’m a bit confused. I called NYU and found that the woman IS from there.

The woman said: “Hello, this is Carol Brandt, vice provost at new york university, calling from admissions for (my name), I’m looking forward to talking to you, I think I have good news for you. I will try you again at another time, later tonight or tomorrow. I look forward to talking to you, bye-bye.”

So, I looked her up and found this:

Vice Provost for International Education and Outreach:
Carol Brandt

Regus Al Bateen, Building C6, Bainunah Street 34
P.O. Box 113100
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Tel: (347) 268-4487
carol.brandt@nyu.edu

Brandt plays a central role in shaping and implementing NYU Abu Dhabi’s commitment to global student recruitment, global education, and the institution’s connections to Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

Brandt joins NYU Abu Dhabi from Pitzer College, where she most recently held the position of vice president for international programs and fellowships. Previously, Brandt served as Pitzer’s associate vice president of international programs, director of the program in American college English, and director of special programs. She was also a senior lecturer in modern languages, literature, and culture.

Brandt received a B.A. and an M.A. in Linguistics from California State University Fresno.

Congrats gitarmonkey…it is your day!

To PheonixR, I quite hope so, but up till now I haven’t gotten anything, as SleepingGrunt has said, that is “written in black and white and signed yours truly”, which is quite irritating…

hmmm…nevr mind…hope for the best and prepare for the worst!. goodluck

OH DUDE. THAT MAKES SENSE…NYU Abu Dhabi offers scholarships and no limit on FA…did you say you wanted to go to the Emirate in your supplement?

Either that or they wanna recruit you.

[Abu Dhabi campus opens | nyunews.com](NYUAD's first graduating class begins final year - Washington Square News)

I quote:

NYUAD is completely funded by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi. The university hopes to educate the world’s brightest students at its new campus. And as NYU seeks those attendees, financial aid has become something more — financial support. The school has avowed that no student or family will have to take on debt to attend NYUAD. Aid includes not only tuition and housing, but also “foreign travel and study integral to a student’s academic program,” as well as two trips home annually, according to the school’s website.

The first challenge of NYUAD is finding these students. After 300,000 promotional bulletins hit mailboxes around the world, NYU began a more personal outreach program, recruiting from approximately 900 top high schools, either by visiting the schools themselves or by educating the schools’ college counselors in information sessions. NYUAD has partnered with the Institute of International Education in its search; the IIE is a non-profit based in the U.S. that is best known for administering Fulbright scholarships to graduate students.

…Dubai’s still better.

Yeah I clicked that the box that said if I was offered admission to CAS, I would like to be considered for admission to NYU Abu Dhabi. I just clicked it as an option to keep open.

The thing about FA is that I don’t need it, so that doesn’t mean much to me (unless Abu Dhabi is more expensive that normal NYU).

Them offering me admission to Abu Dhabi definitely makes sense, actually. I’m an expatriate living in Mumbai, and my common app essay was about an experience I had while working at a shelter for homeless children who have been effected by HIV/AIDs.

Indeed, though, having been to both places, Dubai is much better. I don’t think I’d go if that’s what this is about.

OK! SHE JUST CALLED ME!

I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO CAS

Also, I am being considered as a finalist for NYUAD, and they’re paying for a trip at the end of Jan for me to go over there and check it out. Even though at this point I’d much rather go to NYU Washington Square, I don’t see the harm in going and checking the Abu Dhabi campus out (especially if it’s paid for). :D

wasup “guitar monkey” lol, i found this post on the front page of CC so i clicked…
