While filling out the MIT application, I saw that they had an option to declare interest in playing sports and a recruitment form if you wish to do so.
I played soccer for over 10 years, only taking a break during junior year and currently to focus on academics, and I got to a decent level. I had never considered playing soccer in college to be an option, but would definitely be open to it if possible.
However, I want to make sure what I am getting into before I express my interest.
If I choose soccer, and fill out the recruitment form, am I essentially applying to play soccer at MIT? Or will they also consider my application independently, as any other applicant, regardless of my choice?
Basically, I am worried that if I choose the soccer option, but am not deemed to be good enough by the coaches, my application would just get discarded or at least not given the same consideration academically as it would if I don’t pick soccer.
Additionally, what level of soccer player do I have to be to even have a remote chance of getting in? This is my profile: My preferred positions are in the midfield or center back. In freshman year, I was the starting center back on a club team in the ECNL-RL league. I played nearly every minute possible. We were runners-up at a state/regional tournament which is a qualifier for Dallas Cup (one of the most prestigious youth soccer competitions in the entire country). We also participated in an ECNL showcase in which we were undefeated. In Sophomore year, I was the captain of the JV soccer team at my school but we didn’t have any good results and my stats weren’t too notable.
