Sochi 2014

Finally got around to watching the 15 year old and she’s phenomenal- but I agree with others. There’s something missing and it is almost certainly because she’s 15…

I just watched the mens speed skating 500. I am confused if the first Dutch twin to skate that won or was is the second that won? It was quite exciting when they changed the winner after the race was over.

I find the long track much less fun than short track. Also totally disappointed in J.R. Celski, who NBC and everyone in the world has been hyping to death.

A great day for Canada! Bilodeau defended his Gold Medal in moguls, with his teammate Kingsbury getting silver, and Hamelin won gold in the 1500 short track! Bravo, boys.

I watched moguls in class today. #badstudent

Frustrating I cannot find a live stream for half pike. Qualifying part over.

Temperatures are unseasonably warm and snow contiditons are terrible. We should send them some of the Atlanta weather!

The area where the ski events are taking place is absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed watching the cross-country sprint qualifiers this morning. Many crashes, and some amazingly close races that were photo finishes. Now watching the figure skating pairs short programs.

You are right, alwaysamom. The scenery is spectacular. But the reports of cancelled practice runs and chemical added to the snow to keep it from melting, making it grainy and icy and chunky (as well as slushy) are unfortunate. Then again, they all know outdoor events are subject to any of a variety of conditions. At least there arent whiteout conditions and we can see the events and the skiiers and riders clearly as they are being shown.

Oh, I wasn’t disputing the snow conditions, jym. Sorry if it sounded like it!

Darn, my little cousin didn’t advance from semi-finals.

Extremely disappointed by Shaun White, especially since his qualifying score would have been high enough to win gold.

A lovely Olympic moment today.

I was disappointed that Shaun cut off his long hair. He doesn’t look like a snowboarder any more.

Alwaysamom, thanks for sharing that story. Loved the coach’s reaction to being approached by the reporter.

alwaysamom, what a touching story. Thanks for posting:)

Oh I didn’t take your comment as disputing the conditions, alwaysamom. I was just commenting on them, as I was watching the reports, and the impact its had on the skiiers and riders. Too bad they couldnt have gotten the big snow dump that Tahoe just got, or the cold weather we are getting!!

And Shaun reminds me of Samson! See what happens to those who cut off their hair? @-)

And I love the Canada story. Wish I could see the video

The half pike is in bad condition. It’s not an accurate competition any more.

So. my male cousin didn’t do well, but please, let conditions be good for his sister tomorrow.

Is Shaun White done? Fourth place is not what we are used to but he was pretty classy in his defeat.
