Social activities on and around campus:

What do students do for fun at UCSD? In and around campus? Do they get into San Diego or do they just stay around campus? My son is a junior in high school and is considering applying there next year. Besides intramural sports, what else is there to do on campus?

[Prospective Students: Life as a Triton](http://www.ucsd.edu/prospective-students/triton-life.html)

by the end of my time there, it was generally parties at friends’ apartments, going to the beach (surfing, snorkeling), lab work, and sleeping.

Greek life! So much fun. Beach is a huge part of life here too, since it’s so close to school. older students do venture into san diego and PB, however freshmen are somewhat more limited because of their age (under 21) and the fact that they typically don’t have cars.

So if you do not surf, what else is there to do? What social activities are there on campus besides fraternities and parties? Everyone stays on campus and does what exactly?

The individual colleges often put together events for students living in the dorms (ie study breaks, small get togethers with snacks, international themed nights at the dining hall with live entertainment, my freshman year we had a card making event before mother’s day, etc.) and there are plenty of clubs and activities on campus for students to get involved in. Other than that - students do whatever any other students do - hang out, play video games, STUDY (that’s a big one, not a whole lot of downtime), go to the gym or exercise/tan on the grassy areas near the dorms, go out for meals together, attend concerts on campus (at the LOFT) or all-campus dance events, etc. There’s plenty to do on campus but you sort of have to go out and find it. It’s not going to knock on your door.
