Social Distancing Violation - would you report it?

@Groundwork2022 sending you a pm since this is “confidential” and I don’t want too many actual details posted but the general answer is “I” am not an invitee but am extremely close to someone who is

Will there be alcohol involved? The worldwide observation has been that drunks can’t social distance.

Reporting in advance (so that it can be prevented) would be responsible. Reporting after the fact would be more like tattling.

No alcohol (target audience is the under-21 crowd, which I am not confident is any better). The county rules are no buffets and you can only sit and eat with people from your household.

Report. Do it anonymously if you can.

These idiots are putting everyone in the town at risk.

I wouldn’t bother to report. So many people outside don’t care social distance. I just make sure I keep distance from others.

@helpingmom40 heres an article I found https://dailyvoice.com/new-york/nassau/news/covid-19-heres-how-you-can-report-unlawful-social-gatherings-including-anonymously-online/786217/

And yes I would report. But not to law enforcement. Here in Michigan, they are telling people that they are not the people to enforce coronavirus violations. I would contact the state

Editing to say that the state of New York is asking people to report violations, so I would feel more comfortable reporting. They have a hotline and anonymous forms.

I just don’t understand why anyone thinks it’s OK to plan an event that clearly is not within the guidelines of the location. That makes zero sense to me. And to invite 200 others to share in their wrongful activity? Irresponsible.

Report this before it happens. You are dealing with young people who have been invited to an event. They might just think it’s all OK. It’s not. And current stats are showing that younger people are the ones showing positive Covid tests now more than earlier in this pandemic.

Graduations have been virtual. Proms have been cancelled. Substance free graduation parties, cancelled. Weddings, bar mitzvahs, engagement parties, showers…cancelled because the events didn’t fit the guidelines where the were supposed to happen.

What is the matter with people??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️

What is the matter with people?

We are special snowflakes and the rules don’t apply to us.

I generally mind my own business, but a company blatantly violating the law is something I’d report. We’re trying to get our schools open in NYS. People who think the law doesn’t apply to them are going to make it more difficult for that to happen. Hosting a buffet dinner party with dancing for 200 when the limit is 50 is unbelievably selfish.

target audience is the under-21 crowd,<<<<<<<<<

What under 21 crowd is going to a buffet dinner party with dancing? That sounds like something for the over 70s.

Sounds like a Bar or Bat Mitzvah party…

I would report it.

Sounds like this is taking place in the county I grew up in. I am seeing too many FB photos of much smaller celebrations. This event is far more scary.

If there is a hotline, it was put in place for a reason. And since you are permitted to report anonymously, they obviously understand that reporting can be a little intimidating for people who are concerned about being identified as the “snitch.” But they understand that it’s important, and I’m sure they will protect your privacy.
Cities and states aren’t putting such things in place just because they think it will be fun to sit around taking reports on the phone (or however they’re doing it)–they’re doing it because they are TRYING to mitigate the issues caused by people who callously ignore the data we DO have about how to keep the virus from spreading.
Report it. I will make a pact with you that I will do the same in my town if I happen to see something similar happening. We all want this damned thing to be OVER. It boggles my mind to see how few are actually willing to take the relatively simple steps necessary to make that happen sooner rather than later. None of them are so much more special than other people that they can give themselves special dispensations.

I would report it. Would you report your neighbor kicking a dog or somebody you observe shoplifting? The hotlines and outlets for reporting, are there for a reason.

I have read, and I don’t know the accuracy, that each infected person could potentially pass the virus to as many as three people. So if one person with the coronavirus passes it onto three people, and those three people pass onto three more people for ten cycles, there will be 59,000 infections per person originally infected. In a gathering of 200 people, assume 10 were infected going into the gathering…59,000 ultimate infections from one original ‘infector’ multiplied by ten!

Think about that!

In HI, one infected Hawaiian employees has been connected with infecting 64 people—over 40 in the non-socially distanced training with NO masks snd 20 at two separate gyms! One infected person can really infect lots of people, especially in enclosed setting like party and sharing food & serving utensils at buffet increases contact and conversation. Yikes!

Yes, I’d anonymously report. Their blatant disregard puts the community at risk.

My son has been invited to a friend’s grad party as well as his hs class grad party. He was invited to go the Cape for a weekend with another friend and his family, and several other friends. My niece is getting married in September and there is a bridal shower end of this month. I don’t understand why all these people are having gatherings. Our state has the lowest number of cases in the country right now, I believe, but it’s not going to stay that way if people keep having these gatherings. I’m going to get a lot of grief for not attending some of these events, and I resent being put in that situation.

I would have no problem reporting your event.

My sister just had a party for my nephew for his 21st birthday. He had at least 11 friends outside and she also had some extended family members (Including at least 2 folks 90+ years old) inside the house. I’m sure they had buffet. Now, my BIL is ill (lay in bed all day yesterday & still quietly resting and not going to work today) but they claim it isn’t COVID and won’t have him tested cause no fever nor cough. He did get an antibiotic for an infection of his finger he’s had for weeks.

Sure hope it isn’t COVID and isn’t anything he shared with s the party guests. :frowning:

I would write an anon letter to the people holding it (if time) and CC to who ever you report it to in the county, the mayor, and the governor. Hopefully they would cancel it. If not, anon call the hotline.

I will never, ever, understand the “tattletale” “just don’t go if you’re scared” “mind your own business” kind of comments here and in comments sections and social media.

This is EVERYBODY’S business. We would not be in the predicament we are in if everyone had decided they were responsible to others, and not just to themselves.

Yeah, that’s how Woodstock got out of control.
