What is the social life at Columbia. I purchased tapes from Uncut. com. They have great college tapes that show what life is really like there on campus from everything from dorms to social life. They seem to depict an environment at Columbia of intense studying with a lack of bonding, lack school spirit or school community because the city is right outside the campus gates and students leave the campus to take advantage of what it has to offer. Unlike a school like Penn where there is a great campus social life and also a smaller city with restaurants ect the tapes depict an environment at Columbia where it is hard to get to know other students and feel a connection. Also, they indicated that many students are more isolated and spend hours in their room studying.
Does anyone know what it is really like there?

Not true at all. At least for myself and my friends. I don’t know where that generalization came from. My best advice, visit the school for a weekend!

I thought ppl who got into top schools would be smart enough not to believe all the cliches? There will be enough ppl who you can hang out with and who will have similar interests than you, just like pretty much any other place, too.

couldn’t be more untrue. there are certainly tools at columbia, but the proportion isn’t that high.

Instead of Uncut, look at vids from The U, which is a similar service. That should give you a pretty good idea of Columbia.
