Social Media PDA.

Ok, this is a pet peeve of mind and was wondering if it is anybody else’s, too.

A read these on FB and just about want to gag. Couples, both on FB, and they write and answer each other about their love, or admiration. I always wonder why they need to take that to FB when they see each other everyday. It just screams “see…we are SO much in love. Admire us , celebrate us”. LOL!

Anyway, just read one now and it’s like nails on the chalkboard.

I thought you might be talking about how Meghan and Harry are always clutching onto each other. I find it annoying myself

But the Facebook stuff, same

Oh, God @conmama . That makes me crazy, too. I have one friend-couple in particular that does this all the time. I’m no longer FB friends with the guy, but I still see it all on the woman’s page. Pet names, kissy faces etc. Whole conversations.

Ditto, and for God’s sake, why do we need to see references to sexy lingerie gifts and winkie faces??? I honestly think this is a form of showing off.

Blech…

Often times I think these people are trying to convince themselves and others that they are in living in paradise, while truth be told there is actually trouble in paradise.

Just unfollow them so you don’t see their posts.

I haven’t really seen this since like high school but people that annoy me just get unfollowed. No big deal.

100% agree!

It’s also strange how parents wish their child a happy birthday and tell them how great they are. Why are you posting this? Pick up the phone and call them. Very strange to post it on Facebook.

I’m all for the occasional partner/spouse appreciation posts. However, full on public conversations between the two people are very telling and typically it’s that one of the partners or both are very insecure or anxious. Rarely do I see the overly and regular affirmations of love as healthy mature relationships.

Wow, this sounds awful but I honestly don’t think I’ve seen this occur on my FB feed! My friends must have boring relationships!

@2plustrio

I actually dislike appreciation posts because to me it’s just bizarre. That should be private between those two people.

I don’t post anything on Facebook I wouldn’t discuss in public. I post about my hobbies and comment about sports, music, and movies.

Welcome to Social Media, you must be new here…

But seriously, that’s what FB is largely about, and this is the sole purpose of Instagram.

@baseball687 , ok I have to raise my hand and admit I do the kid birthday appreciation. I guess I want them to always know there is someone that will always sing their praises to the world. I think I’m in so deep, not sure if stopping would hurt their feelings.

Agreed. What I say on social media I would say in person.I may throw out the occasional happy birthday or anniversary post. If someone helps me out I may likely thank them publicly and in person. I like to spread more positivity into the world.

However, I have a few friends though that regularly post about how “hot” or “amazing” their spouse is and then they continue to have this awkward conversation on social media. It’s weird to me when I know those people are probably in the same house at the time or just saw each other a few hours ago.

@conmama I’m “that mom” too. Not usually – my position is Facebook was created so the world could hear about my dogs – but for my son’s 30th I posted a picture of him a few minutes after he was born. So freaking cute.

ETA husband isn’t even on Facebook, so if I want to gush I’ll have to hire a pilot to drag a banner around in the sky.

Reason 672 to not utilize Facebook.

@conmama , you’re not alone. One of my kids is active on Fb as is his spouse, and I post birthday wishes to both. Between time zones, work schedules, sleep time differences, and other factors, I rarely telephone. Texts aren’t always read, but Fb posts are always seen and get a response.

A few of my kids’ couple friends post the sort of PDA mentioned. I can’t imagine doing that if my H was on Fb, but I just scroll by those sort of posts.

Puppy photo posts, OTOH, are the best. I’d love another dog but it’s not likely to happen, so I enjoy other people’s dogs online.

For the parents who post appreciation posts about their children, why do you feel the need to post on Facebook saying how much your appreciate them? Why can’t it be a private moment between you two instead of letting the whole world how you feel? I would actually feel embarrassed if my parents did that.

I guess I’m actually tired of doing it now. I guess because I worry they will think “hey, where’s my birthday greeting from Mom, with all the corny photos she puts up?”

They don’t do FB anymore, they get tagged in things.

I promise you they won’t care. To me Facebook appreciation posts are meaningless. I just never understood them and it’s more of a “look at me” than anything else. People want to hear the words in person or through a phone call. That is a million times more meaningful.

I dont do a major love fest. However, I know its a sign of the times but I do have moments where I think if I were to die prematurely, I would like to think my kids would find something like facebook or the like as a time capsule to remember me by. Gone are the days where I do huge photo albums and such.
And yes, I know it embarrasses them a little when they are teens but they know I mean well and that I truly do love them. They like reading the messages and well wishes people respond back with as well. I show up at my kids games in full spirit wear and cheer on the team and I know they think thats embarrassing too but I dont care.

The fact that I exist embarrasses my teens. It doesnt take much to make them roll their eyes depending on the age. I keep my social media followers pretty low. I post birthday affirmations and such for me to reminisce as do many of the other parents of kids my kids ages do. If Im hated for it, so be it. Ive seen much more embarrassing and inappropriate things posted online between couples and parents. I think Im good.
