How easy/common is it to hang out with people from the schools. For example, I’m going to be a freshman here next year in the Olin Business School, but I don’t want to be hanging out with finance/marketing/accounting majors all the time. Also, our roommates are not necessarily from the same undergraduate school, right? Thanks for answers!

which school you’re in doesn’t make much difference at all I don’t think… my suite freshman year had two ArtSci’ers, an engineer, and an Architecture student - I think they actually try to make things diverse, rather than grouping people together based on school.

Obviously you’re not as likely to have classes with art students if you’re a business major or something, but imo that’s about the only barrier there is. :)

Ridiculously easy/common unless you make an effort to only have friends from the business school. My roommate was from ArtSci and I was in the B-school. My freshman floor had all the schools represented. The best way to meet people is by doing activities that aren’t linked to your school. For example most people in either of the business fraternities are in the business school but if you did a cultural show or participated in an acapella group, your friends will be from all over. I’ve got friends in all the schools and it’s really cool to see what they are up to in terms of classes, projects and unique features of their schools.

In my freshmen suite, there were 2 engineers, a b-schooler, and an art-sci pre-med student.
However, you don’t really get to choose you freshmen dorm-mates.

In my sophomore suite (when you do choose who you live with), there’s 1 engineer, 1 art student, 1 b-schooler, and 1 artsci/art minor.

All of the schools really flow together. There are certainly stereotypes (ie the engineering nerds or b-school pre-schoolers), but everyone pretty much has friends in each school.

talons, btw, did you end up socializing with other schools too?

PM talons if you really want to know. He’s still active on CC but this thread is from two years ago so it’s unlikely he’ll respond to your post.
