Sociology vs Human Services?

Can someone please list the pros and cons for each, the differences between them, and the job opportunities each degree offers? I’m going back and forth between these two degress.

Im also curious about both degrees. I hope someone who knows about them can give us a lot of great information.

About the difference: sociology is the academic study of society from a bird’s eye view, while human services is a professional major that prepares you for a career in social work. It’s a bit like the difference between epidemology (studying disease) and nursing (caring for the sick). Maybe sample courses for each major illustrate the difference.

A sociology major might take classes like:
Statistics
Research Methods
Social Theory
Social Inequality
Contemporary Issues in Immigration
Sociology of Religion
Sociology of Education
Topics in History: Social Movements and U.S. Civil Rights

In contrast, a human services major might take classes like:
Social Issues and Welfare Policy
Families and the Child Welfare System
Interviewing and Counseling
Case Management
Professional Ethics and Responsibilities
Diversity and Cultural Competence
Abnormal Psychology
Social Justice

Some sociology majors choose to enter the human services field after college, but they are not specifically trained for that career.
