Softball or Crew?

My D loves softball but her high school has a really poor softball program.
However, her high school does have a strong crew program and i’ve heard that crew is very beneficial for college admissions.
Is crew really important enough for her to do it instead of softball?

Thanks in advance!

My D loves softball>>>>>college admissions

IMO.

Agreed^^^^

If she loves softball, let her play softball.

She can TRY crew in high school if she is VERY interested in doing so but trying to make that kind of commitment for the purpose of far off college admissions is probably not a good idea. If she follows her natural interests and is productive and happy, she will land in the right college when the time comes. If you are truly looking at crew as a ticket into college, go on the college websites and check out the rosters to see if your daughter shares the same physical attributes (height, weight, arm length, etc) as the college crew athletes. That in itself may help the decision making process. Predicting who will be offered admission ad a college athlete is not always an easy thing to do. Sports should be fun in high school. They become a lot more business like at the college level.

If your daughter loves softball or even enjoys softball more than the notion of attending the college of her choice, then I totally advocate her choosing softball.

That said, crew does typically stand out a bit more on a college application because of the dedication, discipline, and often grueling schedule/routine that crew entails. A solid crew record does a lot toward proving that an applicant has “gumption” – an important quality adcoms look for at competitive top tier schools.

i played softball for nine years & in my experience recruiting comes from playing tournaments on travel ball teams outside of high school. personally i love softball more :)
