<p>I’d love some advice from forum members on good quality, attractive, effective solar lights for pathways. The ones I bought some years ago are now totally ineffective.</p>

<p>I was just thinking of starting a thread about this myself. Someone has to have something to recommend (or advise for staying away from particular ones).</p>
<p>I have both solar and hard wired lights on my property. And jyber is correct, the solar ones are ineffective at illuminating anything. If you want to provide low level light for a walkway you will need to go with low voltage, hard wired. Mine are 4 watts. The solar units only have a small LED and they are intended to be decorative, not functional.</p>

<p>And the light they give is sort of ugly, anyway. Too white.</p>
<p>I guess I have a different take on this product. All we’ve had outside are solar lights, and while they don’t give off the same light as hard-wired lighting, I have been satisfied with what ours have done. So much so that when one is not working, I definitely notice the area is darker and I have to pay much more attention to where I am walking.</p>
<p>That being said, when we bought ours many years back, I remember reading a Consumer Reports article on solar lighting and realizing the ones we bought were not the highest recommended. I don’t think they’ve updated their ratings, so I need to rely on consumers to tell me what works best. Also, at this point in time, cost is not such an issue as it was when we bought the first ones. </p>
<p>I’d still like to hear what brands are considered the most reliable and most effective. I do not want to go to wired.</p>

<p>I think you mean a “pun”, not a “double entendre”. In modern usage, A “double entendre” implies a sexual joke .</p>
<p>We put up a solar light near some steps- there is just barely enough light to help show a stranger that there is a step, but that is about it. I am not inclined to buy solar lights for any place else</p>
