Given my stats, what would be some solid safety and match schools for me?

well…what are you looking for? preference for size or location? any other important factors besides intended major?

Preferably a mid-sized school around the New England area would be ideal. But that isn’t etched in stone.

what are the reaches you are thinking about?

Tufts would be a match.

The reaches I’m thinking about are Rice University, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Michigan.

Even at a competitive magnet school, you couldnt muster higher than a 3.1? Someone explain why he would get into a school like tufts…

It’s hard to know what a 3.1 GPA at a school like that is comparable to with no context. 1520 SAT is certainly above even the top 75% at a place like Tufts.

jPoD brings up a good point - I think the OP’s a little confused. Tufts would definitely be a reach. UMichigan would be somewhat more of a match - although with the 3.1 Michigan would be breaking into the reach category, competitive HS or not.

Tufts Class of 2010 middle 25-75% admitted student stats (matriculated is unavailable) 1350-1520

I was going by PR’s matriculated range for Tufts (1330-1480) probably from last year.

Any other suggestions?

Bring up my post.

what about a solid state school like uconn? they have recently totally renovated their science buildings.

a 3.1 is a little low for Tufts. Your SAT scores and your grades don’t correlate, and that could hurt you even more if it appears that you’re not exerting the level of effort that you’re capable of. Grades are more important than test scores in college admissions IMO.
