Here are the problems that I don’t get (I cant upload them on to here.)
pg. 337 problem 6, pg 339 11-13 (he he he) and 340 (14-15)

pg. 337 #6

The area of a triangle is 1/2 * a * b * sinC, where C is the angle between a and b. It is clear that a and b are the same for all the triangles since they are all isosceles due to a = b = radius. So, the least area will occur whenever sinC is smallest, which happens whenever sin is 0 or 180.

Thus, we’re looking for a triangle that has a central angle closest to 0 or 180. A quick glance shows that it is AOX. The answer is A.

pg. 339 #11

g gallons are available to be used. that is the initial amount.
n galls have been used.
It’s asking what percent of the paint has not been used.

The amount not used is g - n. (g - n) * 100 / g = the percent left.

A simple trick for these problems is to use numbers. Say you have 10 gallons, and use up 3 gallons. What percent has not been used? It’s easy to see that 7 / 10, or 70% has not been used. Just write out the math for how you found 70%, and replace the numbers with letters. The answer is E

Use the triangle equality. The sum of any two sides of a triangle must be greater than the third side. That means that 7 + x > 2 (which is true for all positive x), and x + 2 > 7, or x >5. x > 5 and 2 < x < 7 only for x = 6, so the answer is A.

13

Simplify things.
2|x + 3| = 4
|x + 3| = 2

So x = -1 or -5.

|y + 1|/3 = 2.
|y + 1| = 6

So y = 5 or -7.

5 and -5 make 0. -7 and -5 make 12. -1 and -7 make 8. 5 and -1 make 4. The only impossible choice is D

Evaluate the conditions individually.

I is true because either a = 0, or b = a, and we know the latter is false since a > b

II is true. If a > b, then b < a. If a = 0, then b < 0

III is true. b is always negative, and a is zero, so a - b will always be positive and greater than zero. The answer is E

y = +/- sqrt(x) is the equation of a sideways parabola. This can be written as x = y^2. To shift it over two, we follow basic transformation rules so the equation now is y = +/ sqrt(x + 2). Therefore, x + 2 = y^2, and x = y^2 - 2, which is A

Hope I helped.
