some bipartisanship

JM…like that post…:)

navy2010,
I like your positive additude, but the problem is that some people get utterly irrational when it comes to the Clintons. Our nation has many serious domestic issues to deal with: poverty, illiteracy, illegal immigration, urban gangs, unemployment, affordable health care, and Social Security. I expect our elected officials to work on THESE PROBLEMS, not cook up one excuse after another to waste time and money chasing the Clintons. Despite all of the partisan harassment, during President Clinton’s term we had spending under control, a national surplus, we weren’t at war, our European allies respected the United States, and the Executive Office didn’t create an international jihad against Westerners.

okay, let me translate what usna81 said:

“I have served with many enlisted personnel with no college education that had common sense and intelligence far superior to many college professors.”

he went on to say that HE IS A COLLEGE PROFESSOR.

I wasn’t kidding, but I am laughing! ;)

I have to agree with your view on domestic issues- our society is running amuk, and someone needs to get it back on track. It takes a village??? It will take lots of open minds willing to put politics aside for awhile for the common good- don’t know if the men are up to it.

Looking back, she has been the only one to try and tackle healthcare at its core- what Bush is doing now to seniors is nothing short of criminal. This is not the way to support our country’s elders when they need help the most.

Personally, I think the hits have been very, very low, yet she has taken them graciously, and she has done well in her senate roll. It is clear she is passionate about our country and the issues of women, children and minorites, and has been so for several decades- she is neither afraid of hard work or tough issues, and quite honestly, I really hope she gets the chance.

navy2010,
You’re the BEST! Blue states are COOL!

back to the rose garden…

There is entirely too much anger going on. Now I have a right to be angry, my daughter bought a wedding dress this weekend that looks like lingerie!

Oregon Mom- that is terrible news! What happened to all the crinolin and poof??? You poor thing! I understand completely! Oh, what to do!!

“You’re wasting your time. I grew up in a Republican household in Orange County, CA, but wised up in college.”

usna09mom,

I grew up in a Daley Democrat Chicago household. I also wised up in college. ;)

Oregon Mom,

You really do have something to to worry about. The styles of wedding dresses have really become very (hmmm, I can’t think of a nice word for what I have to say) wrong. I’m sure she’ll be beautiful in her bridal gown, though. And she’ll be happy.

Oregon Mom. Now you know you’re gonna have to bite that tongue. She’s being very fashion plate with the lingerie look. I’ll bet its very very pretty. If she picked a purple gown with hoops, you’re still gonna cry… Just make her do one thing for us. The garter must say GO NAVY BEAT ARMY on it. LOL

Oregon Mom - now, you have to find something great for yourself! If she’s in lingerie, you can’t look like her “mummy.” Work it & show some cleavage! Enjoy & make sure you have waterproof mascara!

OM- if it’s any consolation, I went to a wedding recently where the bride wore red…bright red…and lots of it- the dress never ended- first time marriage for both…nice kids too…so at least if it’s white, or some close-to-white ivory or something, it is a definate plus!

OregonMom,

Oh, I am certain that she will be a vision! Apparently you ironed out all of the scheduling dilemmas? Have the plebes found out their summer training schedules yet? I remember talking with you about the whens and wheres, and whether your plebe could ask for leave. What have you decided to do? I am sure that you have probably had more than your share of stress worrying about all of this, but I am also confident that anyone who could parent a child through the USNA application process can handle Herndon and a wedding at the same time! :)

Boy, you have really gotten all of us to turn out over this one! BravoZulu!

Please post and let us know all the details and how you worked out the scheduling!

Momof1

well just think how handsome your son will be all decked out in his dress whites for the big day!

Its going back to the store. Grandma gave the final “no”. She’s taking us both the next time if we can pry her away from her fiance. Jake is going to be her “man of honor” and she’s so excited about him wearing his uniform. She couldn’t wear that dress or he would look better than her.

Now this thread has taken a much nicer turn…fashion!

I am always a little taken aback when comments in a forum get flying in a way they never would if y’all were standing face to face. It’s hard to debate politics or religion in an online forum…too hard to convey humor, irony, etc. Let’s stick to wedding dresses, food, underwear, boots…the important stuff! :)

Oh Oregon mom, I’m so glad that grandma intervened. Did not want to say anything before regarding your daughter’s wedding gown… I believe that someday when she looks back at her wedding photos she’ll be very happy that she went with something more traditional. You are so right, the bride cannot be out shined by her brother :)

Speaking of weddings, during Indoc, my son had the opportunity to watch a wedding party exit the chapel at KP. He described the newly married couple walking under the arch of drawn swords (or are they sabers?) held by Naval officers in their choker- whites …ending with the bride getting a small slap on the rear with a sword, and the groomsman saying, “Welcome to the Navy mam!”

If Jake gets the opportunity to go to Annapolis, it seems like the most fabulous wedding. I even showed it to Jake. The sword was the perfect touch!

His BGO said that this waiting is enough to make you lose your hair. Hopefully, if Jake goes to Annapolis, he will have enough left.

Oh Oregon mom…I’m praying for Jake … the waiting is truly agonizing …hang in there … we’ve all been there and if truth be told hated it!

Now that we are into the truely important issues again. My son tells me one of the favorite ways to make a few bucks is to be on the “sword detail” for weddings. If the wedding party doesn’t have enough, they hire some midshipmen to make up the complement for the sabre arch. Quick cash for color guard mids. Better than waitering at country clubs - the other big pocket money job - at least at KP.

They can do that? Wow! I’ve never seen a “navy” wedding but have heard of the tradition with the sword tap to the bride’s rump. I find it so charming. I couldn’t watch one of those. All that blubbering would embarrass people.

Oregonmom, if Jake makes it in, I promise, he won’t have hair. LOL Every time my kid comes home, I have to rub his nubbins. I could scrub a skillet with that head. Let us know whats going on with the dress. Grandma’s are all that is good and wise.
