Some Canadian universities put volunteering on students' permanent records

I hadn’t come across this before, but some Canadian universities put volunteer activities on students’ permanent records:

Does your college/university keep a co-curricular record? Do you think it’s a good idea?

Some schools in the US also do this, often called transcript notation, although they usually give students the option of putting on their transcript or not.

It can be a good idea because it gives your volunteer work or an internship a more formal, more legitimate feel. When graduate or professional schools see your transcript, they will see these activities, so it is a strong benefit if those activities are related to your graduate or professional degree (like volunteering at a hospital when you’re applying for medical school). However, most employers will not see your transcript or permanent record. So for careers that do not involve graduate or professional school, it doesn’t make a difference.
