Some inspiring words to keep us going as we put finishing touches

Hello fellow Columbia '15 hopefuls

We all feel very nervous about submitting our ED app. While its true that Columbia is extremely difficult to get into, requiring a touch of excellence AND a touch of luck, we can not let our nervousness get in the way of giving the admissions officers the BEST applications they have ever seen!

I am sure that a ton of you is thinking about one part of the app, and feeling “dammit, this one little thing will ruin me.”

Do not let this attitude get you.

The people who will read your app are given their title for a reason. They are not “Rejections” Officers, they are ~Admissions~ Officers. They aren’t going to look at your app and say “Hm. Seems good to be a good student. I suppose he should be accep-OH WAIT! He got a C+ in 9th grade English! HE MUST BE REJECTED NOW”

Their job is not to find your fatal flaw and destroy you with it. Their job is to find your greatest highlights and recognize you for it.

Our job is to put together kick-ass applications which expose and emphasize those highlights.

Good luck, everyone!

what nice encouragement!

That was actually really helpful :). Thanks. I do think that every applicant, myself included, tends to worry too much about insignificant things. We need to put things into perspective because we’re all amazing students.

That is some solid advice, sir. I tip my hat to you.
