Is it necessary to bring your own printer even if you have a $40 printing deposit on your ID card?

Also, I’m currently number 3 of 3 on the waitlist for 21-127 Concepts of Math. What are my chances of getting in?

nope, the printer is unnecessary as long as you are living somewhere on campus. you will probably get into concepts. just show up and talk to the professor the first day if nothing else…

If you end up taking the wrong Interp class, there is a small possibility that you might run out of quota. However, you should still have like 10 bucks left even if you print a lot. Unless you’re printing a textbook, then in that case you’ll def run out, lol.

A personal printer is not necessary. There are printers scattered across campus. You will, however, need to enable your computer to be able to print on CMU printers. There are tutorials online that walk you through that process.

$40 printing quota is more than enough for most majors. In fact, I printed out two textbooks last semester and used up only about $20. (4 pages per sheet, front and back)

I’d guess that OP was at 80% probability for taking a printer, at first posting.

By post #4, OP is maybe down to 35-40% probability for a printer.

I’m going mess his mind up,

Personal printer is always handy, even if you will never use it. :)

are printers available 24-7?

Considering that almost everyone pulls all-nighters I would say yes. The printer in Donner seems 24/7

Yes, they’re 24/7, except when they’re broken down. CURSE YOU MUDGE PRINTER.

You will not use up your whole print queue. If you are using a large portion of it for Interp, you are failing at printing the important parts. I had to print 40-50 pages per reading and didn’t even come close to half my queue - ended up using the rest to make paper snowflakes with the floormates at Christmas. The people in line behind me watching me print 40 pages of blank paper were not very pleased.

what about scanners? S uses our home printer/scanner/copier a lot. He is an art student and often scans his hand-drawn work to include in animations etc. are there scanners on campus?

There’s definitely scanners around. Although not one in every dorm… If convenient bring it, if not, don’t sweat it. Really convenient to have one in your dorm than print it out on a winter night.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe there is a scanner per computer cluster.

thanks for replies

Take your printer. Sometimes unfortunate situations happen where you can’t go directly to a library/printing room to actually get your stuff printed. Have a backup, and those 40$ aren’t going anywhere.

I kiss the hands and feet of roomate’s mom…He texted that they are taking an all in one printer…I get to keep mine at home…I was going to miss the printer as much as the kid (joking…joking).
