<p>I landed in DCA about 6pm. Everything went fine and we even landed 10 minutes early. Things were calm in the ORD airport and no snags with TSA at all. We went thru at 10am LA time, which was before LAX problems. Our flight took off at 1pm LA time–3pm Chicago time.</p>
<p>Helicopters in the air assessing the scene on and off for about 12 hours. Traffic was a mess today.</p>
<p>Our D was supposed to fly out of Terminal 3 on Virgin this morning at 7:40. All Virgin flights were cancelled through last night. So far her flight is delayed til 11am but is still shown at T3, which at this point is still closed. Guess we will play it by ear and allow plenty of time. 1000’s of passengers were delayed yesterday and are still trying to get out and every hotel in the area is booked. My guess is it is going to be a mess! No complaints here as I keep thinking about the family of the TSA agent who was killed. How sad!</p>

<p>Could be that many people do not keep their important stuff (ID, credit cards, passport, plane ticket information, cell phone) on themselves, but leave that stuff in their baggage… bad idea if there is ever need to evacuate a plane or an airport.</p>
<p>I will never pack those essentials in my luggage again. After seeing the FBI is retaining all abandoned luggage and will throughout the investigation, it could take minths to recover important stuff for those passengers!</p>
<p>When we dropped our D off at terminal 3 yesterday morning they were just starting to release all of the luggage that was left during the shooting. In the meantime those people could not access meds or anything else that was left. You are right- this serves as a reminder to always important documents, etc with you. I usually keep them in my purse, but in this case I guess many women even left their purses!</p>
<p>It can be difficult to abandon valuables, especially in a chaotic situation. Electronics and medications can end up weighing quite a bit, taking up a significant amount of space and would be disruptive to our lives if held or confiscated during an investigation. Unsure what I’d do during the shooting. We usually have one piece of wheeled luggage a purse and a backpack when I travel. The most urgent stuff is in my purse and backpack.</p>
