A friend’s husband is becoming a new US citizen. He’s about 29 or 30 years old and I’m trying to think of a nice, fun gift for him. His MIL/FIL are giving him a baseball cap and a mini-model Chevy. They’re having a party with apple pie & hot dogs next weekend.
An American flag?
A voter registration card for the Democratic party?
kidding, kind of.
That party sounds like fun!
They make some leather passport covers with the USA passport emblem on them. Hmmm…I’ll have to brainstorm for more ideas.
As mentioned on the Diet and Exercise thread, this brand of socks is apparently awesome:
you can get a US flag flown over the capital building from your congressman/woman.
Lots of fun ideas on Café Press!
A small lapel pin of the American flag? (I wear mine on 7/4 snd 9/11)
Maybe wrap it in an IRS 1040 form?
A box of American food - Spam, marshmallows, Campbell’s soup, jello, Oreos, Rice-a-roni, Kraft Mac and Cheese
A frame for the Certificate of Citizenship
A pass to a national park
Any item that is made in America.
A nice baseball glove.
A home baked apple pie?
Ditto the flag flown over the Capitol; you can request that a flag be flown specifically on the day your friend becomes a citizen but you’ll need to do it ASAP. I did this for a friend and she loved it. Of course you won’t be able to present the gift until a few weeks after the fact.
Tickets to Hamilton! Haha. I know you probably can’t do that. How about tickets to a baseball game?
My first thought was flag. But obviously that was already suggested several times.
I like the apple pie, tickets to a baseba game and a national parks pass.
I’ve decided to give him Michelle Obama’s hardcover book, “American Grown.” I think he and his extended family will enjoy it–have lovely color photos of the White House garden and community gardens across the US.
Would rather give him something that will be used/read/enjoyed and suspect he will get several mementoes.
That sounds like a wonderful gift, HImom!
A copy of the Constitution. Lots of these at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. It depends on whether you want serious or fun.
My new son in law will be getting his citizenship soon. Lots of great ideas here!
My mother-in-law became a citizen about a month after President Obama was inaugurated. While waiting for my flight out of the DC airport, I browsed through the marked-down inauguration souvenirs, and found a lovely silk scarf that had all of the presidents’ signatures on it. She adored the scarf and wore it to her naturalization ceremony. It is still available: http://shops.mountvernon.org/presidential-signature-scarf.html
That is a lovely scarf, but seems like a better gift for a female than a male.
