Subject says it all. Son submitted early app on Oct 26, named to NHS as a senior a week later. Is it too late to somehow have that added to his transcript or app? He can obviously list it on his other RD apps, but (obviously) Yale is his preference and I’d hate for them not to see/know of the additional honor.

Last year my D sent an update to her early app school(s) sometime in November. She sent her 1st quarter grades, and a very brief summary of new awards and honors such as All State band, a state level award for her Mastermind team ( and she’d been named captain), an update on her varsity team etc. I don’t know if she would have done it if she hadn’t had a few to report. I would think that if NHS is a big deal at your S’s school it can’t hurt to send an update. Schools have more or less rigorous entrance criteria for NHS and I know at our very small HS they do the inductions early for seniors for the express purpose of the new members being able to include the honor on their ED/EA app’s. Someone else might say that Yale can see your son’s academic performance in his grades, and the SSR may not report on the standards for NHS. I don’t think it will necessarily tip the scales for your S but it also can’t hurt. If he’s expecting to have anything else to report, wait and send it all in the same update.

My daughter omitted some “activities” from her commonapp because she intended to send resumes to all the schools and then realized that some schools do not want them but failed to add the information. She then emailed three of the EA schools to let them know she was trying to avoid duplicity but…in her case it was Class VP, American Legion Girls State and an exchange program but I thought the class VP was important enough for her to go that extra step and admit her mistake. All three schools wrote back thanking her and saying they would add it to her admissions folder.

Send an email or call the admissions office. They’ll be happy to accept additional info.

Just make sure if you send it in that it is clearly marked so that it can be added to his admissions folder. While it won’t tip the scales one way or another, it can’t hurt.
