Son of NYC mayor will attend Yale

That is because, unfortunately, those threads went so far off the rails all too quickly that there was no salvaging them. It happens. Nature of sites like this that are so interactive.

^ Well, perhaps a tool that is unfeaturing threads that were beyond salvaging might be helpful. You never know, a basic part of the new plain Vanilla software might just have it … hidden in full view and only one click away!

Did this thread START as featured, or does that happen after people start clicking on it? Maybe that’s the flamey thing. FWIW, I’ve been curious about wehther the young man was the Mayor’s son, or on of those pictures they put on school publications…I finally clicked when I saw all the action…AND I had at least four patients cancel or no-show today.

Maybe it got featured because it was one of the few cafe threads that actually had a college theme! I never pay much attention to what’s featured as it never seems to make any sense. I just come to the Parents Forum and see what’s new.

For those of you who don’t know much about Bill de Blasio: his wife, Chirlane McCray, attended Wellesley, where she came out as a lesbian in an interview in Essence. This attracted quite a bit of attention during the mayoral campaign.

The de Blasio campaigns were accused of “playing the race card” in 2009 and 2013 when the ads featured his wife and kids

They have an older daughter at Santa Clara University who has opened up about her problems with anxiety, depression and substance abuse.

On my phone, this thread shows up on the front page as one of “Top Discussions.” At my desk it shows on the sidebar as one of “Featured Threads.”

I love crepes

Does anyone know where the following people decided to go to college?

  • The daughter of the Mayor of Cleveland?
  • The son of the senior council-woman of Topeka?

This. Means. Something.

Odd that CC would ignore that while having so much discussion about deBlasio. Odd. Very odd.

population of Cleveland: 390,113
population of New York City: 8.406 million

I read the New York Times even though I’m a lot closer to Topeka than New York. So I’m kind of interested in where Dante de Blasio is going to college.

I read the NYT too. I didn’t know the wife went to Wellesley and all I knew about the kids was that they were mixed-race.

What a New-York way of thinking about things. The metro cleveland area is undoubtedly a couple million people. Just like lots of other metro areas you fly over.

We may not care where the mayor kid goes but watch how many people are going to care where Lebron’s kid ends up

^^Well, to be fair, if we’re talking about metro populations, it’s over 20 million for NYC.

I think that this family rings a lot of bells for CC parents. They are solidly upper middle class (he makes very nice money as mayor but didn’t always) by CC definition; before this year when they moved to the mayor’s residence in Manhattan six months after he took office, the family lived in a tiny house in a neighborhood noted for great schools; he had issues of caring for at least one elderly parent; they are a mixed-race couple; she at one time was a Lesbian; the kids went to great NYC public schools; Dante has a famous Afro and statewide debater; Chiara goes to a liberal arts college and went public with her substance abuse issues.

The mayor, although he won with 80 percent of the votes in his election, is reviled by many segments of the population who used to be the majority of New Yorkers but no longer. I am sure his political enemies would be happy to use any of his personal information against him so I guess it’s better for the family to put the information out themselves.

Isn’t Lebron’s kid already being recruited by colleges, and he is like 10 years old?

ha, Lebron is even less interesting! I wouldn’t know him if I tripped over him. Apparently he plays basketball. Whatever!!

The reason it made national news is that it reinforces the media’s regard that politicians are perfect people & gods. Mr. was smart but the Ivies admit legacy students based on what they count on after the fact-alum donations.

CORDIE, if you think the media portrays politicians as “perfect people” and “gods”, you’re watching a different set of news outlets than the rest of us. Just ask Hillary Clinton, Chris Christy, and for that matter, The President, if they feel like they’re being portrayed as perfect gods by the media…

I’m sure one of Danre’s selling points is that he is the bi-racial son of the prominently controversial mayor of (arguably) America’s most important city. The fact that he is imminently qualified academically probably sealed the deal. He adds diversity on steroids, allowing the school to further boast of its “vibrant” community. From an admissions point of view, what’s not to like?
