Son you don't understand. You can never go home.

Joe Darby, military policeman, on why he gave the Army CID the pictures of what was happening at Abu Ghraib, and what happened to him after Donald Rumsfield broke his cover by publicly identifying him on television.

(Caution, links contain photos and graphic descriptions of some of the abuses).

<a href=“The Times & The Sunday Times: breaking news & today's latest headlines”>The Times & The Sunday Times: breaking news & today's latest headlines;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6930197.stm

Darby and his wife had to live under armed protection for six months and it’s still not safe for them to go home.

Wow… the really creepy thing is the way that Donald Rumsfeld blew his cover, when he had been promised anonymity & was still with his unit in Iraq. Shades of Valerie Plame…

His is the only case that I know of that has been documented of a U.S. soldier returning from Iraq being spat upon, physically attacked, and having his life and that of his family threatened.

Rumsfeld was either malicious and blew his cover, or an insensitve bungling fool and blew his cover. I can easily believe either.

I can believe Rumsfeld being malicious. I can’t believe him being bungling.

^^ Really? Because when I googled “bungler” the first hit I got was a picture of Donald Rumsfeld…

the most touching story i’ve read in a long time. i’m sure i’m missing some details here but i feel like punching rumsfeld. anyone here predicts what’s going to happen to rumsfeld for a punishment?

“anyone here predicts what’s going to happen to rumsfield for a punishment?”

Make him change his name to rumsfield and have to read political threads on CC for 4 hours a day?

He gets awarded an Ambassadorship to Nassau, The Bahamas, and lives a life of comfort, luxury and prestige.

(seen it before)

Kluge: I think he’s a mean, nasty man. I don’t think he’s stupid.

Perhaps the scariest combination.

Rumsfeld is responding how I expected him to. Otherwise he would not be where he is.

I will say no more.

This is upsetting on so many levels I wouldn’t know where to start.

Veryhappy, I think Rumsfeld actually thought that his various disastrous strategies would work - I think that Rove and Cheney may be legitimately nasty, the rest of the crowd just share the mutually reinforcing failings of incompetence and arrogance - character traits Rumsfeld seems to personify.

Sigh.

I can’t disagree.

Remember, this is the man for whom the “Rumsfeld Handshake” (facilitating Saddam Hussein’s use of chemical weapons against Iran, with half a million deaths) is named.

So what’s a little two-bit unpatriotic soldier being spat upon worth to him?

George Bush goes to a primary school to talk to the kids to get a little PR.

After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand and
George asks him his name.

“Stanley,” responds the boy.

“And what is your question, Stanley”

"I have four questions:

"First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN?

Second, why are you President when Al Gore got more votes?

Third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden?

Fourth, why are we so worried about gay-marriage when 1/2 of all Americans don’t
have health insurance?"

Just then, the bell rings for recess, George Bush informs the kiddies that they
will continue after recess. When they resume George says, “OK, where were we?
Oh, that’s right, question time. Who has a question?”

Another little boy puts his hand up. George points him out and asks him his
name.

“Little Johnnie” responds.

“And what is your question, Little Johnnie?”

“Actually Sir, I have 6 questions.”

"First, why did the USA invade Iraq without the support of the UN Second, why
are you President when Al Gore got more votes?

Third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden?

Fourth, why are we so worried about gay marriage when 1/2 of all Americans don’t
have health insurance?

Fifth, why did the recess bell go off 20 minutes early?

And sixth, what the heck happened to Stanley?"

cheers

CHEERS!!

Stanley is probably not in Guantanamo - he’d have to be 15 to get sent there.
