Songs from commercials when we were growing up

Or how about . . .

To a golfer, it’s a hole in one!
To a batter, it’s a big home run!
To a sculptor, it’s a mon-u-ment!
To a smoker, it’s a Kent!

The taste of Kent, the taste of Kent
The taste of Kent, the taste of Kent
The taste of Kent, the taste of Kent
Great taste, fine tobacco!

And . . .

They took the blue from the skies and the pretty girls’ eyes
And a touch of Old Glo-ry too,
And gave it to the men who proudly wear
The U.S. Air Force blue!
And you can wear it too!

^^^^^Wow, I definitely don’t remember cigarette ads!

Though I remember smoking sections in movie theaters and on airplanes.

“Don’t cook tonight, Call Chicken Delight!”

We sang that as:
Comet will make your teeth so clean
Comet tastes like gasoline
Comet will make you vomit,
So get Comet, and vomit today!

I think the actual product was Comet.

This one popped into my head today :

Schafer…is the…one beer to have when your having more than one

What an odd slogan :O

What was the brand of cigarettes where the guy had a fake looking black eye and he said “I’d rather fight than switch” ?

Anyone old enough to remember the Palmolive dish washing liquid ad…“Dishwashing liquid Madge?” “Yes, you are soaking in it”

And who remembers when the TV used to sign off at midnight and there was an image of a Native America looking over a field of litter with a tear running down his cheek?

And then there was the cross your heart playtex bra commercials and the models always wore a turtleneck UNDER the bra.

Oh, the cigarette commercials. Who remembers this one and cringes:

“You’ve come a long way baby
To get where you’ve got to today
You’ve got your own cigarette now baby
You’ve come a long, long way”

Ok, on second thought, there’s a cigarette ad I remember.

I remember all of the above-the Native American one always got to me.

I am stuck on band aid brand 'cause band aid’s stuck on me
I am stuck on band aid brand 'cause band aid’s stuck on me
Yes, they hold on tight
no matter what
On fingers, toes, and knees!
Ohhhh

That was Tareyton. I know because I used to smoke them!

I drink Dr Pepper and I’m proud
I’m part of an original crowd
I’m a pepper, he’s a pepper, she’s a pepper, we’re a pepper, wouldn’t you like to be a pepper too?

Winston tastes good like a … CLICK CLICK cig-a-rette should.

Definitely remember “Don’t cross in the middle …” - sang it to my own kids!

How about all the beer jingles?

And for you New Yorkers …

Palisades Amusement Park
Swings all day and after dark …

Palisades has the rides… Palisades has the fun… Come On Over.
Shows and dancing are free… so’s the parking, so gee… Come On Over.
Palisades from coast to coast, where a dime buys the most.
Palisades Amusement Park. Swings all day and after dark.
(bumm, baa, dumm, bumm, bummmm)
Ride the coaster… Get cool… In the waves in the pool.
You’ll have fun… so… Come On Over.
(dumm de dum da dum… dum)

**Adee-Do! **

This was for the Adee plumbing company in Los Angeles. They did commercials that mimicked the old “The Shadow Knows” radio show. The gimmick would start with a housewife struggling with a clogged drain. A spooky sounding voiceover would ask:

"Who knows what danger lurks in your plumbing?

Then a goofy looking guy would come on the screen and say:

Adee-Do!

Then it would go on asking several more spooky questions and goofy answers, each time the Adee-Do man would sound weirder and weirder.

*Who can fix your pipes?

Adee-Do!"
*

By the end of the commercial most people were rolling on the floor laughing. Adee-Do became an instant catch-word in Los Angeles. I remember hoping the sewer would clog so that my Mom could call Adee-Do. She never had to–Dang!

Anyone remember Soaky the bubble bath liquid that came in a plastic bottle shaped like an animal? The jingle:

Soaky soaks you clean
in oceans full of fun
scrubbly bubbly bibbldy bubbly [?]
clean before you’re done
every girl and boy, yes, every girl and boy
gets a toy when it’s empty
when it’s empty it’s a toy

My beer is Rhingold, the dry beer
Ask for Rheingold whenever you buy beer;
It’s not bitter, not sweet
(la la la, la la la)
Won’t you buy, extra dry Rheingold beer!

Don’t cook tonight
Call Chicken Delight!

Call Roto-Rooter,
that’s the name,
and away go troubles
down the drain

“You’ll wonder where the yellow went
when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent.”

“Mabel, Black Label, Carling Black Label Beer.”

“I’m hot dogs, I’m peanuts, I’m candy…” (intermission commercial at the drive-in)

“Riceroni, the San Francisco treat.”

These old cigratette commercials remind me of a game that (thank heavens) isn’t played any more. We played tag every evening with variaions: TV tag meant you could touch the ground before “it” touched you if you could name a new TV show. You were “it” if your choice had been named before. Color tag meant you were free with a new name from your 64 count Crayola box. Cigarette tag meant you were free with a different brand name. The ads were pretty much ingrained…" Winston tastes good, like a (click, click) cigarette should."
