Songs that reliably make you happy-cry - or just make you happy

Tie Me Kangaroo Down always makes me smile.

From Les Mis: Bring Him Home.

From Wicked: For Good
From Fiddler on the Roof: Far from the Home I Love
From A Chorus Line: What I Did for Love

I pretty much can find a reason to cry in any musical!

Alabama’s Angels Among Us when the kids’ chorus comes in. Something about children’s sweet voices gets to me.

“Happy” by Pharrell Williams. It came out in 2013, a very bad year for us. (2011 and 2015 were bad, too, actually) It made me cry every time I heard it.

Songs from Sound of Music generally make me happy.
Songs from Camelot and Carousel and South Pacific too, even though stories are sad.
I love musicals with lyrics that I and normal folks can sing.

Sad: Bruce Hornsby and the Range-Mandolin Rain

Happy: Dire Straits-Walk of Life

I’m an 80’s girl… anything by Bon Jovi makes me happy!

Land of Hope and Dreams - Bruce

I always smile when I hear Burl Ives sing Constantinople. Weird, I know, but it reminds me of all the good things from my childhood.

The song Hallelujah really gets me. The scene in Shrek where it played makes me cry every time.

After watching Demi Lovato sing her new song last night on the Grammy broadcast, I am certain I will cry every time I hear it.

Grateful Dead-Bertha

Cher- After All

Simon & Garfunkle -Julio

Sarah Machlalan - Angel

Two that make me cry are

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle
Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman

One that makes me smile is Knee Deep by Zac Brown Band

This Jewish girl loves Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Canon.

Chorus Line What I Did for Love was our first dance at our wedding.

Canon in D as my daughter was a ballet dancer and one of her earlier pieces. Tried to get her to walk down the aisle when she got married to it, not that I needed a reason to cry, but she refused.

I’m sure I’ll think of more, since my mind is focused on musicals at the moment.

The posts in this thread are making me smile. My 14 yod’s Spotify playlist is all musicals. Her favorites are from the Greatest Showman, but she listens to musicals all the time. (Definitely very different from her siblings.)

Bronte by Gotye makes me cry. Every. Single. Time. Never fails. Anyone who has ever lost a beloved pet would relate.

“Now your bowl is empty
And your feet are cold
And your body cannot stop rocking
I know
It hurts to let go” ?

A long-time family friend, with his family, had fled Austria as a child to escape the war. Everyone knew his story. He died a few years ago and I attended his funeral as I had grown up knowing him. His two grown sons told funny stories about his life (the sons are excellent speakers) and it was more of a celebration…until the end of the service. When the vocalist started singing Eidelweiss we all lost it.

Music is a powerful thing.

How could I have forgotten this gem that always brightens my day? Guaranteed to put a smile on my face and lighten my step.

Lean On Me is pretty awesome, too.

there’s this from Landslide that makes me cry every time I hear it:

Well, I’ve been afraid of changin’
'Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too
