Son's hair looks ridiculous!

S has my hair – thick with lots of waves. When he grows it longish, it starts getting bushy/wavy/curly. But, since joining AF ROTC, he’s back to the buzz cut of his younger days. A couple of weeks ago he sent us a photo – a fraternity brother had buzzed the AF logo into the back of his head. S said it’s not “regulation,” but his AF Commander let it go since he thought it was cool. Be assured S will NOT have that haircut when he goes to Field Training in June.

:D CountingDown knows this, because she’s seen my S1’s h.s. graduation photos. If I actually described his hair and, more important, the facial hair he was sporting at that time, I’d be searchable/identifiable. Let’s just say it was as bad as facial hair could possibly be, and that two years down the road, even he winces when he sees those pictures.

“It’s only hair; it’s not a tat,” was our mantra for a looong time.

HMW, there are some pics of S1 that are truly scary. It was during the “Who, me – groom?” stage. S2 at least knows to use hair products.

We have the same mantra.

Lafalum–Boy do I wish I could have rocked the Farrah hair look. Although I tried, my bangs could never get “trained”.

I just let it go. My college son looked like some Neaderthal when he came home for Christmas, and he is really a nice looking guy. But he’ll have to figure that one out himself. Too many other battles to fight.

Eggson “borrowed” my flat iron when he was a hs senior. Three years later, he is still straightening his wavy, shoulder length hair. A good haircut with that natural wave would be awesome, but he just cannot see it.

DH keeps saying “As soon as an important girl makes that suggestion, he will make the change.” Strangely enough, several gfs thought that hair was just fine.

^^ eggmom, I was in my mid-30’s before I appreciated my curls. Maybe he’ll figure it out sooner than I did!

I got lucky; through high school, D was in a performing dance company, so anytime she wanted to get a mohawk, dye it blue, or otherwise deface it – I just said, “Ask Miss Tonya.” D’s desire to stay in the company was stronger than her desire to have weird hair.

But now… just yesterday, she said she might shave one side of her head; apparently, this is some kind of style now? I gulped hard and walked away. I’ve always said that hair is not a mountain to die on. So if she doesn’t change her mind, we’ll see if I can practice what I preach.

LasMa, One of my employees (in her 30s) shaved her head for a charity event. When the fuzz started growing back, she dyed it pink.

She doesnt interact with the public and we dont have a dress code. As her boss, I just remind myself to focus on the work, not on the looks. And presumably, it will grow out. Whether it stays pink is another matter.
