Anyone have this problem? I have a SONY laptop; D has a Mac; H has a MAC; S has a Toshiba netbook. Linksys router. I have the PC (Sony) but it has trouble recognizing our internet connection. When I turn it on, it tries to connect to dial up or broadband. Other laptops don’t have this issue (same router). Any ideas? Is it the laptop, or the router that needs to be configured? I just have to keep hitting cancel to delete the popups, but it’s like the laptop thinks it’s offline when it’s not.

And it causes delay when I’m trying to get to my favorite college-oriented site…

I too drive a Vaio. I don’t think your problem is your computer. Here are my suggestions:

Get into your control panel; activate your pop-up blocker; get rid of all the junk programs that came pre-loaded and compress your hard drive. I think you will find the connection works faster.

Do you periodically run a good security program? I have had your problem a few times and needed to clean out all the accumulated cookies, of which there were a frightening number.

I also have better service with Google Chrome than with the Internet Explorer that came with the computer.

What operating system are you using?
