I’m applying to programs where the SOP needs to be submitted electronically.

I’ve never submitted one before.
For most of the apps, you have to copy and paste it into the textbox they provided, but for some you have to send it as an attachment.

For these, do I need to include my name anywhere on the document? Do I need to sign it?

If it’s part of a textbox on a submission page it should be marked by their software. If you’re uploading it as a Word file or pdf (which I’d recommend to make sure nothing comes out funny) definitely put your name in a header/footer. No need to sign.

Okay thank you. Is the following header OK:

First name Last name

Statement of Purpose

The statement of purpose is supposed to be centered. Should there be anything below our SOP text?

Also can you abbreviate university names? Like if I applied to MIT, can I use the acronym “MIT” instead of Massachusetts institute of tech?
