This is the discussion page for applying to the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program/CUNY School of Medicine (BS/MD Program) for the Fall 2026 Entering Class. Please feel free to post any questions.
Hi everyone!
I’m planning to apply soon for Fall 2026 and was wondering if anyone knows how many students in the program are admitted test-optional. I’m also unsure what’s considered a competitive test score, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Additionally, can we apply to both the Sophie Davis Program and Brooklyn College (which is also linked to CUNY Medical School), or do we have to choose one?
Thank you so much!
Yes you can apply to both the Sophie Davis Program and Brooklyn College program. Sophie Davis Program is a 7-year BS/MD program. The Brooklyn College BA/MD program is an 8-year program. At Sophie Davis, you are required to major in Biomedical Sciences. At Brooklyn College you are permitted to choose any major that interests you but you must also complete the required pre-med courses.
The exact number of students that are admitted test optional is never released by the Sophie Davis Admissions Office. However, you should be aware that a large number of students in the program come from many of specialized science high school like Stuyvesant High School, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech and Staten Island Tech. Others come from competitive high schools on Long Island like Great Neck North and South High Schools, Herricks High School, and Jericho High School. As you may know, in order to get into NYC’s specialized science high schools, you are required to take a standardized test in which you must perform extremely well. As such performing well on standardized tests is typically not difficult for students admitted to Sophie Davis. More often than not, they submit their scores to the program because they perform extremely well. With that being said, the Admissions Office does not release any score ranges as having a low score (however you want to define that) does not exclude you from the likelihood of being accepted as the admission is multifactorial and holistic.
Thank you! Very helpful insight. Applied to both programs and sent in scores.
