Sophomore block

Did sophomore block die?

I think this is what you are referring to:

[BUS P255 — Business in a “Flat” World 2009: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

However, in order to participate, you had to sign up by the beginning of the 2nd 8-week period of the Spring Semester 2009 (which meant you had to sign up/enroll about 5 weeks ago).

As you can see, the trip doesn’t take place until August of this year, but as you can also see, you had to sign up during the last part of the freshman year.

This is what I meant when I said in one of my other threads that sometimes the school doesn’t advertise some advanced programs so well. Rather than refer to this as sophomore block like they did last year, now they just treat it as a single “international dimension” class.

Here’s some good news, though. There is also a “spring break” sophomore block in addition to the “summer” sophomore block.

Here’s the info on that one:

[Emerging Economies (BUS G255): Study Abroad: Academics: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

Applications for this during this academic year were due by October 1st–so I presume that will be the date for the coming year also.

If you want more details, I suggest you contact IllinoisMom2006, since her son attended the spring break sophomore block this year. Also, continue to look on the Kelley website under “study abroad programs”, which is where you can get the early info on next year’s programs.

It appears that Sophomore Block has evolved over the last few years. In Fall 2007, it consisted of 4 honors classes (A207, X205, L293, & X202) and a trip to India. It was open to direct admits.

Last year, they changed it to Sophomore Honors Block (SoHo) and it was open only to those who were also admitted to the Mitte Business Honors program. Additionally, the India trip (X293) moved from the fall to the August before the Fall 2008 semester began AND it was disengaged from SoHo. It was open to all 2008 DA sophomores with of 3.6 GPA or better.

I can’t find any mention of SoHo for the upcoming year. Interestingly, the Kelley site also doesn’t mention Mitte, but rather the Business Honors Program.

My son did not participate in SoHo, but rather took the G255, Emerging Economies class, and thoroughly enjoyed Croatia over spring break.

I remember that my son, as an eligible DA, received an email in January 2008 from Kelley announcing the changes and informing him of the application requirements. If SoHo still exists, and your son was eligible to apply, I think he would have received an email from the school.
