Sophomore Preparation

Not sure if this is the right forum, but…

I am only just now starting to look at college admissions and preperation. I have always hoped to go to a very competitive school, but I now realize I have to focus more to do so.

Anyways, here’s my limited info:

PLAN

Reading: 28
Science: 27
Composite: 28

Key Courses:

French
Math Seminar (advanced Algebra + Geometry)

GPA: 3.9

Extracurricular:
Scholars’ Bowl

Other:

I am planning to apply to some highly competitive schools like Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and Harvard. Given this, how does my record look so far? Also, is there anything else I should be working on to prepare?

Should I be starting some sort of test preparation? (I haven’t done any.)

You should plan to take SAT/ACT sometime soon…at least keep it in mind
If you havent taken the PSAT, look out for it next year…you might be able to qualify for NMSF or something as well as get practice for the SAT

Ummm look at the SAT Subject Tests…if you’re taking APUSH or Bio or something, start thinking about taking the SAT II in that subject after taking that class because it’ll save you a lot of time and trouble later on. That way you wont have to review ALL of American history fall of junior year because you didn’t know Harvard required 3 SAT IIs…

Build good relationships with your teachers! Enjoy sophomore year but plan ahead
I’m only a junior so I dont have that much advice since I havent started college apps or anything but those are the things I wished I had known earlier.
Good luck!

The PLAN is the PSAT of the ACT universe.I don’t have advice about test prep, but if you do well enough to compete using the ACT (for Ivies, folks here seem to report 32 plus), some schools won’t require SAT III’s. I think a few elite schools my still require 2 or even three SATII’s.

I think my school takes the ACT this spring.
I’m going to take the PSAT next fall. Then, I take the SAT in spring of Junior year.
We chose the SAT or ACT to take fall of Senior year.
