What are my chances to getting accepted to UVA?
What should I work on doing this summer and what else should I try to improve on? Any particular things I should do? Thanks for any help

come back when you take SATs

I think you are in no doubt, assuming that you stay on this track. If you can get your SAT score in the 2000+ range, then I think you also have a chance at being an Echols scholar as well. Being instate helps a lot.

thanks obaig…what’s an Echols scholar?
mustang… Im going to take an SAT prep course this summer and I’ll tell you what I get next year… I’m aiming for a 2200+ and a 210+ to get to atleast the first level of the National Merit thing.

You are definitely on track. A 2000+ SAT should get you in.

As far as Echols scholar status, check out this site:

uvaapplication.blogspot.com

in which the Dean at the Univ of Virginia wrote:

“What has surprised me is the number of admitted students (rather, their parents) calling to complain about not being designated an Echols Scholar. They seem to think that the transcript is the key to the Echols process. As I’ve explained before, we’re looking for academic excellence, but we’re also looking for love of learning or a clear passion for a subject. The essays, activities, and teacher recommendations all contribute to our review, it’s not just about the GPA.”

Best of success to you.

Oh, another thing. From my understanding, people who score that high on the PSAT/SAT do not really benefit from prep courses. I heard self-study, through taking a number of real practice SAT exams (and examining your wrong and correct answers) will help the best.

yeah i didn’t really think i was gonna need the prep course… I think it’s for people who have really bad scores and want to increase them. Yeah this summer I’m gonna prep alot. and calcruzer thanks for the advice… yeah I think my strength will be my recommendations and activities because I have a couple of teachers who love me and I will be doing lots of internships because of Governor’s school. And im not too bad on essays either - when I have days to complete them.

btw Indian and born there… Parents immigrated to amercia year I was born

and English isn’t my first language… I speak fluently in my language also
