Sophomore Year and Extracurriculars

Hey, y’all!

So, I’m not sure what to do. I’m a rising sophomore at a prestigious university, and I only had time to take up one extracurricular activity in my Freshmen year: a capella. The thing is that I want to go to grad school for special childhood education, and so far, I have a job that’s geared towards ending human trafficking (especially of children) in New York City for this summer. This is part of my purpose-- helping at-risk children-- since I’d ultimately like to teach children who are in rough situations. Anyways, is it too late if I take up extracurricular activities in tutoring, working with the learning disabled/autistic, and teaching children from low-income families how to operate radios starting my sophomore year of college? I plan to apply for special education and general education internships in Summer 2009. Please help. If you could, that’d be great! Thanks~

Oh, by the way, there is no education major at my college. Instead, I’m double-majoring in Spanish and the Earth & Environmental Sciences.

It’s not too late.

Nope! Go right ahead!

Why would you want to teach poor kids an expensive and boring old-people hobby like ham radio? Might as well teach them to race Segways.

So kids from middle class families don’t deserve your help? I’m sorry. I just don’t understand the willingness to help low income families instead of just helping whoever wants help.

Because givers have to know when to say no, because takers never do.

Don’t criticize others who help the needy unless you’re showing how to do it by example.
