Sororities & fraternities at gwu

So, does Hazing at GWU still exist? BE HONEST. And if so, how severe is the hazing process these days? And also, can anyone give me any more details on the whole recruitment process? What I mean is details on “Rounds 1, 2, 3” and “Preference Round” and then finally “Bid day”. Thanks so very much in advance.

*I am a female, so the process for a sorority specifically, but hey, i’m not picky, I would love any info at all, so anyone who wants to answer, be my guest. thanks again!

You might want to ask how it was at the most recent CI where you can meet with greeks re: recruiting. Maybe some new freshmen could give youtheir take on things.

GW has one of the strictest non-hazing policies. There are sororities and fraternities that have been reprimanded in the past for hosting a scavenger hunt because it was considered hazing. The policy has gotten to be a bit ridiculous but in any rate, you won’t be hazed - trust me.

I think the most hazing you have to do is go to dinner hours, study hours, and wear your bid day shirt on a certain day.

As for the rounds, I copied this from a sorority’s website:
Round 1: Open Round – during this round, you will visit all sororities and have the opportunity to learn a little bit about each one!
Round 2: Philanthropy – this round focuses on each sorority’s philanthropic efforts. Round 3: Invitational – the third round is a great time to learn more about the sorority’s on-campus activities and our sisterhood as a whole. During this round, you will meet more sisters, and hopefully leave with a better understanding of how our experiences in our sorority have shaped our character and made us into the women we are today.
Round 4: Preference – the final round of recruitment, this is our opportunity to share many important traditions that create the foundation of our sorority.
Bid Day – Once recruitment is finally over, potential new members are handed bids.

I recommend everyone to consider going through recruitment. It doesn’t hurt to try something new and if you don’t like it you can always bow out. It’s a great way to get back that community and school spirit that some say GW lacks because it situated in a city.

Here is the link to register for sorority recruitment: [Panhellenic Recruitment - Student Activities Center - The George Washington University](http://gwired.gwu.edu/sac/greek/howtojoin/panhelrecruitment/)

And here is link for all the sororities at GW along with their websites and contact info and information on their governing council: [Panhellenic Association - Student Activities Center - The George Washington University](http://gwired.gwu.edu/sac/greek/governingcouncils/PanhellenicAssociation/)

Fraternity recruitment is a little more laid back. I don’t know if there’s a registration process but you get to pick and choose which fraternities you want to go visit. Even if you dont want to be in one, I would suggest going because they always have free food and fun things to do. Probably a better night than sitting in your dorm room playing video games with your friends anyways.
