Sororities with Good Reputation

I don’t know a lot about Greek life in general, but I was wondering. Is there such a thing as a sorority that serves a good purpose? With members who are there to be friends and support each other, rather than to form cliques and haze new members?

I’m just looking for a way to have a more vibrant social life in college (and I KNOW, Greek life isn’t necessary for a great social life; I was just curious) without all the stereotypes and crap that I always hear about sororities and fraternities.

Is there a house like that at Northwestern? Do they even exist at all?

:-</p>

Do you attend NU now? I would say all sororities here “serve a good purpose.” Not every one will serve that purpose for you, but with 12 houses (Panhellenic houses, there are various multicultural and Black sororities as well) you’re more than likely to fit a great fit for you. Also, I can say with confidence that there is no sorority hazing here.

If you’re a current student, not sure where you’re getting that perception from (unless this is all based on popular media). Definitely sign up for Recruitment Preview which is in a few weeks, just to get a taste of the process.

Actually, I have heard of some sorority hazing… It may not happen anymore, but I did hear that some used to…

I’m guessing that depends on your definition of hazing (the way the school interprets it, scavenger hunts are “hazing,” so…).

Hahaha Well… if 2 hour wall sits or having burning candle wax falling on your hands count as hazing, then yes, it occurs. Nothing more extreme than that though I would guess.

The “multicultural” sororities are notorious for hazing, and hazing hard. Other than that, I haven’t heard of any sorority hazing.

Yeah, all the stories I’ve heard are from the multicultural sororities.
