Sorority Time Commitment

What is the average number of hours a week a sorority girl devotes to sorority activities at UNC?

Also, what day are the all-chapter meetings held each week?

Initially during the pledge period, I would say that two nights a week (for a couple of hours each night) is the time commitment. This accounts for new member meetings and chapter meetings. After initiation, which takes about three nights that week, you will typically only have chapter meetings. None of this estimation includes mixers/cocktails, which for many sororities are once every two weeks. Hope this helps!

And most sorority chapter meetings are on Wednesdays

—This is coming from my sorority as well as observations of friends in other sororities

Honestly, don’t even worry about it. Sorority commitment during the new member period is no biggie- probably 1-2 hours a week for new member meetings (though I know for Chi O, these aren’t required) and 1 hour for chapter.

I think everyone has chapter on Wednesdays. Most are around 6:00. Once a month or so, everyone has formal chapter. You have to dress up and it can last longer-up to a few hours. If you have class, you will always be excused from sorority events-this is true for all of them. You’re first semester in the sorority should be your biggest time commitment unless you take on a leadership position later on.

Thank you! This information is very helpful!
