I believe that I can get my GPA up to a 3.7 UW and a 3.85W by the end of JR year
My school is pretty top notch, and doesn’t allow underclassmen to take a ton of honors/ap courses
By the end of JR year I will have taken 6 Honors and 2 AP courses
Lowest Grades- Spanish II (B-) Art (B+) and Geometry Honors (B+)

Im not instate but could you give me advice to help me get into UM?

Thanks

GPA and class rigor is the biggest factor. I would work on bringing the GPA up to be safe. Some community service may also be helpful.

sorry guys- 130+ hrs of comm service

internships during the summer lasted for 2 months- about 15-20 hrs a week

and thanks for the advice

Hey partriotsfan!
I’m an incoming freshman to UM this year; we have almost identical stats. I had a 3.6 UW, 30 ACT, community service and i was pretty involved. I got in at the end of October my senior year, no problems! Keep up the good work; i’m sure you will get in! Go Blue! :)

rising junior… a little too early to accurately chance you

thats why I was looking for advice more than a chance on admissions

the basics. 3.8+, 31+, volunteer work, sports, etc.
and you’ll get in

Just so you know, UM doesn’t recalculate your GPA, so they’ll be using the weighted one if that is what is on your transcript.

One tip that may or may not assist you: Lots of people talk about the GPA/SAT or ACT. Don’t forget about class rank, because your place in rank relates a little to the rigor of your school and adcoms will be looking for grade inflation (as a sign of a weakening program).
So, for example, at a rigorous school where you can conceivably have a 3.6 GPA and still be in the top 10 % – well then, that 3.6 “means more” and would net a little more weight. Michigan counselors tell kids time and again that they will be evaluated “within the content of your school.” What they mean when they say that is that they tend to admit students in the top 10% of the pool. So keep an eye on your rank and be conscious of it, as it may influence things for you. And if it’s not possible to move up your rank, then find a way to really set yourself apart. Eg. my son’s range was similar to yours but his school doesn’t rank and the whole program is “gifted/talented.” Despite the whole school being G/T, they still accepted only about the top 10% of his class, and they seemed to know who they were. My son was an outlier comparatively, but he was well rounded, had strong awards and outstanding recommendations. He also had very high grades in some core courses (don’t forget they don’t count/calculate grades for things such as band and art) and had a 34 ACT in English. That seemed to have helped overcome his rank – just so you know that it is POSSIBLE to do so.
Hope that helps you.

One more thing. Study well for your ACT and discipline yourself to do some prep if you can (don’t have to pay; online resources avail.) You’d have a little more wiggle room with a slightly higher ACT.
You have lots of time so have at it and good luck!

Take an ACT review class…it really helps you structure your study and practice time. It would definately help you to up that 30 since you are OOS…also take more AP’s to help your rank and to show them that you have taken the most rigorous courses offered at your high school. I do recall my son’s GC having to check a box on the application that asks that specific question. They always say they would much rather see a B in an AP class than an A in a non-honors course. Good Luck… Also make sure you visit the campus so you can speak from personal first hand experience on your essays…don’t quote USNWR. They love kids who want nothing more than to be accepted into their outstanding university based on what they saw, felt, learned during a tour or summer camp!! Many kids from OOS never visit before applying and I really think if they see that you made that kind of effort if possible, it can help your chances. Lastly…when the time comes…apply early in Sept or Oct…it also shows them you are very serious about attending!! GO BLUE!!!

thanks guys. My school only lets people start APs in JR year, so I will be taking some this coming year.
