South African Student deferred, asking for advise!

Hey guys,

I am an Asian South African. My application for Harvard EA got deferred. And I hear that the chances of getting accepted after being deferred is are pretty damn slim. I just want to know, will the admissions committee compare my application to other American students or will they compare it only to South African applicants, and if there aren’t too many South African applicants, does this mean that my chances of getting in are increased? Furthermore, if it’s true that Asian Americans don’t get preferential treatment, will my application be affected by my ethnicity? (Because after all, Asians were a historically underprivileged community during the South African apartheid government)
