South east asian cooking

Hi, I’m a huge fan of south east Asian food and I’m wondering where are the best places to get my fix? Any place that makes a solid Khao Soi? I’ve heard good things about Taste of Thai, but have also heard it has gone downhill.

On another note, I’m planning on starting a new language next year. My first thoughts are either Thai, Khmer, or Vietnamese (I’m interested in development, and I get the feeling that Khmer may be the most practical for somebody working in development 20 years from now), but I am open to other ideas. Can anyone tell me about the language programs at Cornell, and what they think would be the best choice? Thanks!

Try learning to cook 'em yourself?

As for the language learning, I’m a huge language-lover! To start a new language, no matter what, I think it’s best to learn by yourself. By watching music videos(after reading the lyrics and the translation) and watching TV shows for babies.

I actually started learning Spanish (with absolutely no prior experience) two months ago, and I can pretty much have an understandable (but simple) conversation with someone in Spanish.

As for the language choice, it depends on what your goals are. If you’re just a language enthusiast, I would suggest the ones you mentioned and Russian. If you’re learning language for practicality, I would suggest Chinese/Spanish/Arabic/Russian.

In fact, I actually want to tackle Arabic after studying Spanish for a while. It’s so different! (I currently know Chinese and English fluently, kinda speaks French fluently, and broken Spanish)

Good luck!
