Wondering if anyone knows anything about the Emerging Media and Digital Arts program at SOU? Thinking of applying but can’t seem to find any practical info on it from anyone going through it. From the website it sounds great but I’m looking for real-world viewpoints from students. Thanks!
What are your stats? Where do you live?
Would SOU be a match, a safety, a reach?
I live in Northern Cailfornia. I’m in a specialized digital arts/graphic design program at my high school and SOU would be a good match for me, and I’ll be applying in the Fall. My stats are in line with the student body there: ACT is 23, and I’ll be taking it again in June. GPA is 3.1. I like what I’ve read about on the EMDA site but want some perspective from people who are in it.
The university is hippy-ish, artsy, laid-back. It sounds like a great match for you. You may want to look into Chapman’s offerings, as well as University of Utah (participates in WUE I think).
SOU is not a real hard school to obtain admission–in recent years here is what general admission stats looked like: Oregon. 100% chance. Academic Performance. 23. Avg ACT. 1573. Avg SAT. 3.2.
One thing you might want to note, and it may or may not have any bearing on your decision, but it has a decided tilt to its female student population. My niece graduated just a couple of years back, and was sort of shocked by the ratio of female to males—I think her response was “wow–where are all the boys??!” We visited her several times, and that was actually readily apparent. I looked at a recent student profile, and sure enough, that was supported by the stat of 65 percent female, 35 percent male.
