<p>I know there are a lot of loyal SW airlines fans on here.</p>
<p>Just got an email with an announcement that they will start serving the Atlanta area in February 2012. </p>
<p>Frankly, I’m surprised they are moving into that airport; they typically try to stay away from the busiest airports (although being at JFK and LaGuardia doesn’t fit their pattern, either). But I know lots of people who will be thrilled they will be in Atlanta now.</p>
<p>Interesting, considering Atlanta is the world’s busiest airport. Perhaps they felt like they needed it as a hub. I’m close to Atlanta - SW recently came to our local airport but, yeah, people will be thrilled that they’re in Atlanta.</p>
<p>I believe their acquisition of AirTran and their gates in Atlanta is the reason…</p>

<p>This is great news for us. We and son flew SW to Miami for undergrad. So convenient. Now he is in Atlanta for grad school. (Started classes today). Will have the next 3 years to visit and we plan to do just that… my sister lives in ATL!!</p>

<p>Love it. I’ve driven to Atlanta (7-8 hrs) in the past rather than fly. Of course, SW is known for partnering with their airports as much as with their employees and suppliers. Don’t imagine there’ll be as much room to maneuver in Atlanta as in smaller airports.</p>
<p>Southwest is supposedly coming to Portland, Maine, also!!! We will be jumping for joy. It’s the “Portland International Jetport,” you know. They are just finishing an expansion. The letters in “JETPORT” on the side of the building must be ten feet tall, no joke. It’s embarrassing.</p>
<p>Southwest has opened their reservations through March 9, 2012. It is a good time to make holiday travel reservations, if you can.</p>

<p>Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t actually new gates, but rather picking up Airtran’s gates. There have been too many recent mergers in the airlines - when competition goes down, prices go up :(</p>
<p>I actually don’t like the acquisition of AirTran by Southwest. AirTran at DFW help to keep American from charging outrageous fares on the routes they compete on. Because Southwest cannot fly from both Dallas Love Field and DFW, AirTran will stop flying from DFW in November.</p>
<p>Looking forward to 2014 when the Wright Agreement will be lifted and Southwest will then fly nonstop from Dallas Love to any airport beyond the current restrictions.</p>

<p>Have mixed feelingsa about Airtran’s acquisiton by Southwest. But, its is what it is, and its mostly good! Good bye first class seats and pre assigned seats. Hello no baggage fees!</p>
<p>I’ve never flown Southwest – is it better than Delta? (Delta lost our luggage and bumped us from our flight).</p>

<p>I (and many friends) have unbelievable tales of woe about flying Delta but Southwest is a breath of spring in my experience. Yes, you don’t get pre-assigned seats but I’ve never had a problem getting an early boarding number and getting a seat that I’m happy with. My travels on Southwest have been as easy as pie which is much more than I can say for Delta.</p>
<p>Anyone who doesn’t think Southwest is the best airline simply hasn’t flown much. Things can go wrong on any airline, of course, but Southwest is the class of the field in the US. (I am lifetime American Platinum from my Dallas days…)</p>
<p>The joke used to be: “When is Southwest coming to Atlanta?” “When Delta says they can!”</p>
<p>Hope Southwest can clean up AirTran’s mess.</p>
<p>AirTran had great fares and good serivce up until about the year 2000. From that time every ocassion that I flew AirTran the flight left typically an hour late. One memorable disaster was an Orlando vacation. As the fellow waiting behind me during downtime following a cancelled connection said “I live in Richmond and if I had kept driving south this morning rather than head to the Richmond Airport I’d have been in Orlando by now.”</p>
<p>Good luck Southwest. We need a challenger for the Delta Newark-Atlanta route.</p>
