^ If you booked through SW, your bag flies free on an AirTran flight.

I also liked the assigned seat. But there seemed to be some kind of SNAFU on my flight from Atlanta to NOLA, as two passengers were arguing that they had been assigned the same seat. This set the stewardess in a bad mood for the whole flight and led to the poor service. I actually got to choose my seats for both flights, coming and going. I expected them to be assigned, but I was able to look at a seat grid and choose a window seat. Do the Southwest flights have assigned seats now, too?

Southwest still uses the A, B, C lines and numbers. One can pay extra to be one of the first 30 to board. We’ve never found it necessary as we are pretty good about checking in 24 hours in advance.

I did recall one issue on the Air Tran flights–the 717 planes really lack overhead space. I think part of it is that most people try not to check bags. On the flight home, the one we nearly missed, they checked DH’s carry-on bag as we boarded.

Montegut–I’m wondering why/how you were able to choose your Air Tran seat? On the 717 I lucked out and was in the two seat side of the plane. Poor DH was stuck on the three seat side.

I expect to start seeing more Air Tran flights out of our closest airport, Indianapolis, and fewer Southwest.
