And I checked the flights I booked during the last sale and saved $12 on DS’s trip home over spring break.

Well…sort of. Not across country. There were NO fares from here to DD’s airport in CA that were $99 one way. There were NO fares to DS’s airport in the southeast (not all that far from here) that were $99 each way.

I just booked Oakland to BWI for $99. You have to try various airport combinations. Both require a little drive but well worth it.

I booked the day before the sale began. Swell, huh?

Southwest has very liberal cancellation/change policies. You should be able to cancel your existing reservation and get a credit toward a future reservation. If your flight is eligible for the sale, you could then rebook using the credit and retain the cost difference as a remaining credit for future travel. I’d recommend checking the SWA website to see if your flight is eligible for the sale and if so, then call SW and confirm if you can cancel and rebook using the credit.

I definitely agree with sherpa… check and make sure the route you booked is available for the sale prices, then cancel it and use the credit to pay toward the rebooking at the lower fare. Then you will have a credit with Southwest.

Actually, I should add that when I book Southwest flights, I usually book them as two separate reservations. That way, if one leg of the flight goes on sale, but the return trip doesn’t (or visa versa), it makes it much easier to rebook one leg, than to cancel the whole reservation.

Thanks! Just got cheap tix for S to come home over Spring Break!

We were able to get a credit for a fare that went down previously, and in fact I just used that credit to help pay for this ticket!

I called SW when I saw the slightly lower rates, and the agent said I was looking at Web only fares so I had to do the change online; he couldn’t do it for me. He advised me to go to Travel Tools - Change Air Reservation - and pull up the confirmation number. Essentially I just changed to the same flights at $6 less each. (It was a round trip ticket. ) So you don’t even have to actually cancel, just change. He now has $12 credit on SW for a future flight.

Just make sure right before you do the change that the rates are actually less. I kept another window open showing the lower fares as I did it. It made me feel safer :D

Hopefully some of the CC’ers who weren’t sure before about spring break trips can take advantage of this sale now.

about as low as 2002-2003 when people were afraid to fly. Now its no money to fly/travel.

I get emails pretty frequently from Southwest about their sales. If you miss one, another is usually right around the corner

You do not have to do that. You can change just one leg. The cancel/change menu lets you choose which leg you are changing. I just did that for one of my flights. Instead of flying home after visiting DD at school for a performance, a client wanted me on their site the next Monday. So I just went in and changed the one leg. They only charged the difference. I then booked a separate trip home (the $99 one).

However, if there are more than 2 of you flying you may want separate reservations. I found that when I needed to change where I was going, but DH did not, I could not just change my leg. I had to change both of us. I would have had to cancel that leg and rebook us separately. Happy ending, he is going with me. It was so cheap to fly and make the change during the sale that it is a nice mini-vacation in SF for both of us.

DD flies out of San Jose. There are NO $99 airfares to the northeast airports (Manchester, Albany, Hartford, Providence) on ANY days and there haven’t been during any sales so far. We are looking at a flight at the end of June…can fly ANY day of the week…any time. Cheapest one way $179.

Hey Thumper, would it be possible to have your DD take the train to SFO? It could save you $80. (or if you can get that fare for the September return, $160).
