Space heater..energy efficiency?

thinking of getting a space heater, for the basement…S3 down there most of the time…the basement has its own heat pump/ac BUT if that gets turned on the electric bill will be horrendous . anyone know of a great space heater that is energy efficient…keep seeing infomercials for eden something?

I’ve been wondering about electric space heaters too. It is so dumb to heat a big family home when I’m often home alone.

JUST saw this posted on a local business FB page!

[Can you cut heating costs by using a space heater?](http://news.consumerreports.org/home/2011/11/can-using-a-space-heater-save-on-your-heating-bill.html#.TteWhFCckX4.facebook)

this would be safer.

We use one of the electric heaters in our sun porch which we use year around. Our house uses radiant heat (old type) and there is one very small radiator in the porch, but not enought to warm it in the dead of winter. On cloudy cold days, the electric heater works well, but I always question the cost of it - husband spends a lot of time back there and likes it WAY too warm for my comfort!

On sunny days, an extra heater is the last thing that room needs!

Insulation/caulking etc. can help a lot. Be very careful w a space heater and don’t leave it on when you aren’t in the room.

Our house faces south abasket & it can get very warm- Ive been thinking of enclosing our front porch, we could make it into a greenhouse!

A sun porch will always be a requirement of any house we own - particularly if we stay in the midwest! Nothing like the warmth and light of the sun in the dead of winter to brighten your spirits and energy! (though for the males in the house, the warmth seems to put them straight into nap mode!) And truly, on a sunny winter day, that room can hit 80 degrees pretty easily - we open the french doors and share the heat with the rest of the house!

I use a fleece sweatshirt, a flannel blanket and a dog sitting in my lap to keep warm…

I use a oil space heater in mom’s room. (she is 95) and the rest of the house colder. My room has the heater vents closed and window open. Mom’s house is heated with heatpump (was oil and fireplace insert) but last night temps got down to 32 and the pump wasn’t too efficient.

I use a space heater (ceramic with fan controlled by thermostat) in the basement (unheated) to keep my feet warm. I bundle up with everything else. It’s a lot cheaper than running the baseboard electric in the basement and we’ve never used it except to test it once. My office is next to a sliding-glass door so it can get quite cold there.

think i’ll look around tomorrow, have a sears, lowes and sams club i can check out. i have to believe it would be cheaper than running the heat pump…just have to remind S3 to turn it off while he is out all day. saw dyson had a new one too

Wow, looks like my space heater will save me a lot this winter.
