Spanish, man!

I’ve been toying with the idea of taking the AP Spanish test this spring, despite being in Spanish IV (Spanish V being the AP at my school.) I’ve learned little from the teacher, so I imagined if I had a thorough book that covered the main concepts of the language I would do better than I am now. Really, the AP Spanish test would simply be motivations, while learning the language is my true goal.

So, yes… independent study of spanish… eh?

I took my exam after completing Spanish IV (level AP) and recieved a 4, consistent with my grade both semesters. I also self-studied to get into the prerequisite freshman year. You will need more than one book; a forum for vocabulary, a grammar book like Abriendo paso (or the Ultimate Spanish Review), and a place where one can read Spanish frquently (possibly the foreign language section of the library) would be needed depending on how much one learned in previous courses. My teachers were good, so I had to do little self-study outside of class to reach Spanish III and IV.

I have this book that is called Manuel de Gramatica (supposed to be an accent somewhere) and it’s very useful in organizing your knowledge in spanish…For listening I recommend this self-teaching course from LivingLanguage, I think it was called “Advanced Spanish” and it’s got dialogues in various situations as well as grammar sections at the end of each chapter often pointing out mistakes that english users are prone to make.

a few words: JOSE M. DIAZ.

for AP Spanish Lang/SAT 2 Span, I recommend Jose M. Diaz’s book…i don’t remember what it’s called. but AP Spanish is in the book name, it is red, and you buy it off amazon. I’m telling you, it’s worth the search, that book is GOD, even if you’re an atheist. buy it and you will ROCK. i’m telling you, i SUCKed at spanish but after using that book i got a 5 on the language exam and a 790 on the SAT. go get it. i’m telling you.
