The Spanish Royal Academy decided to incorporate their new usage of spelling along with major accents starting in christmas. does that mean all spanish learning at school/ ap tests/ SAT w/ listening/ and others will have to change? and how fast might the education system/ college board incorporate these new changes in the language?

The changes are not too major, so any changes the CollegeBoard may have to make would be relatively easy. Especially for SAT Subject Tests, where there is no student writing involved, CB would just have to make sure that they’ve changed the spelling in the test accordingly.

As for AP exams, where writing is involved, I’m sure that for at least the next few years, the exam readers would have to accept both pre- and post- change spelling and accents, as there will be some students who do no know about the change or have already gotten used to the pre-change rules.

And for Spanish learning at school, I guess the speed of change depends on how quickly word gets out about the new changes. I know I learned the letter “y” as “i griega” very early on in my Spanish career, so it will definitely be hard to get rid of that knowledge and replace it with “ye”.
