Ok…I bought a really tight sexy black skirt. Heck, it might as well be called a spanx skirt itself. Got it at the Juniors section at Kohl…haha. Anyway, I went to buy some spanx and came home and tried it on. Hello! My bum sits up about 6" higher I think…call me Conmama Kardashian! No lumps on the sides. I don’t think I’d wear these on an every day basis, but for going out…yessiree. They cost more than the skirt though.
And it feels so good when you finally take it off!
Spanx are fab, but it is a relief to take them off. I have a spanx strapless bra, too - let me tell you the girls have never looked so good.
I can already tell it will feel good to take off. Thankfully I’ll only have it on for a few hours. How do people wear these all day!
I thought the entire idea of Spanx is to keep the butt from sticking out too much? 
I’m just mad that I didn’t “invent” Spanx. I had been cutting the legs off my control top hose for years before Spanx came on the market. $-)
Well, for those of us with flat low butts, it’s awesome. Sort of like the miracle bra!

But seriously, folks, aren’t Spanx a lot like the girdles our mothers and grandmothers wore?
Yes they are. But they are much thinner. Didn’t you have to wear stockings with girdles, too?
I used a garter belt, not a girdle.
I buy spanx at least one size larger than what I wear. I’m not looking for a girdle look…just a smoothing out. Getting the larger size gives me the smoothed out look…but not the girdle feel.
You know, that’s a good idea. I might go and see what the large feels like. I think it would smooth things on the sides and still give the backside that little lift…but be more comfy in the waist. Argh…why didn’t I do that when I was there? Back to the store.
What specific Spanx are you all recommending? The high waisted “higher power”? Or the one piece top and bottom combined.
The bottom only. And I also own Hanes brand…purchased at Target. Lots cheaper…and fine. I don’t use them very often.
Spanx are smooth girdles with a cool name! Excellent marketing, because we would never wear a girdle. The name was the genious part!
I remember seeing my Nana in her girdle. Spanx have got to be more comfortable than that!
They are thinner and smoother and much nicer looking and nicer feeling. But really they do the same thing. And they’re not called a girdle!
Get the right size and it’s neither an old girdle (that takes your breath away) nor uncomfortable. I happened to get the Maidenform version and it’s comfy and does just what I wanted- now what words do we use to describe? How about: firms up the crotch to bosom area. Since I lost weight, needed that.
I was concerned the high waisted would roll down so got the one that looks roughly like a bathing suit, shoulder straps, top part sits under the bra line(for the bra decolletage to show. 
) Walmart, inexpensive. Comfy. Slinky shirts look good.
